in this world; which of them will be her husband in the Hereafter?”
He replied:
“The one who showed the better character toward her in this life.”
He then added, “O Umm Ḥabībah, excellent character has claimed the best of this world and the next.” (1)
A similar narration is reported from Umm Salamah (2). Allah, glorified be He, knows best.
The book is concluded with the help of the Sovereign, the Bestower. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds.
(1) It is narrated by al-Bazzār (no. 1980 in Kashf al-Astār) via the chain of ʿUbayd ibn Isḥāq, whose reliability is weak.
(2) It is also recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (vol. 23, p. 870) with Sulaymān ibn Abī Karīmah in the chain; he was declared weak by Abū Ḥātim, and Ibn ʿAdī stated that most of his reports are questionable. This narration is only known through this isnād.
And with this concludes, by the grace of Allah, the verification and commentary on this section of al-Bidāyah wa al-Nihāyah by Ibn Kathīr concerning the signs of the Hour, completed at the end of the month of Muḥarram, 1423 AH. May Allah grant success in what is correct.
في الدُّنيا، فأيُّهما يكون في الآخرة؟
فقال:
"لأحْسَنهما خُلُقًا كانَ مَعها في الدُّنيا"
ثمّ قالَ:
"يا أُمَّ حَبيبةَ، ذَهَبَ حُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ بِخَيْر الدُّنيا والآخرةِ"
