In Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, through the line of transmission that runs from al-Mukhtār ibn Fulful to Anas, it is related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “By Him in Whose hand is my soul, if you had seen what I have seen you would laugh but little and weep much.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what did you see?” He replied, “I saw Paradise and the Fire.” (1)
He also informed us that when a person performs ablution and, upon finishing, says, “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger,” the eight gates of Paradise are opened for him and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes. (2)
In Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, in the report narrated by Shuʿbah from ʿAdiyy, from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib, it is stated that when Ibrāhīm, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, passed away, he ﷺ said, “He has a wet nurse in Paradise.” (3)
Allah the Exalted says: “And We said, ‘O Adam, dwell—you and your wife—in Paradise and eat from it freely wherever you wish, but do not approach this tree…’” (Qur’an 2:35). The majority of scholars hold that this Paradise is the Abode of Refuge (Jannat al-Maʾwā). Another group contends that it was a garden on earth which Allah created for him and from which He later expelled him. This matter has already been discussed in detail at the beginning of this book in the story of Adam.
Al-Bayhaqī records—with his chain through al-Ḥākim, al-Aṣamm, Ḥumayd ibn ʿIyāsh al-Ramlī, Muʾammal ibn Ismāʿīl, Sufyān, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Aṣbahānī, Abū Ḥāzim, and Abū Hurayrah—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The children of the believers are on a mountain in Paradise, looked after by Abraham and Sarah until the Day of Resurrection, when they will return them to their parents.” Wakiʿ likewise related it from Sufyān—and that is Sufyān al-Thawrī. (4)
The ahādīth on this theme are extremely numerous; we have already cited many of them above with their full chains and texts.

It is firmly established in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The poor among the Emigrants will precede the wealthy on the Day of Resurrection into Paradise by forty autumns.” (5)
Al-Tirmidhī also narrated this from Jābir and declared it sound (6), and from Anas, though he regarded that particular report as unusual. (7)
