Ahmad said:
‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Sharik narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Saʾib ibn Malik, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “I looked into Paradise and found that most of its people are the poor; and I looked into the Fire and saw that most of its people are the rich and the women.” (1)
Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah said: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Hisham al-Dastuwaʾi narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from ‘Amir al-‘Uqayli, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “I was shown the first three of my community who will enter Paradise and the first three who will enter the Fire.
The first three to enter Paradise are: the martyr; a slave whom the bondage of this world did not distract from obeying his Lord; and a poor man with dependents who nevertheless preserves his dignity.
The first three to enter the Fire are: a ruler who wields oppressive authority; a man of wealth who does not give Allah’s due from his wealth; and an arrogant pauper.”
Ahmad likewise transmitted it from Isma‘il ibn ‘Ulayyah, from Hisham, and al-Tirmidhi recorded it from ‘Ali ibn al-Mubarak, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, and said: “This is a ḥasan (sound) hadith.” (2)
In the hadith of Ghalib al-Qattan, from al-Hasan, from Anas, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“When the servants stand for the Reckoning, a people will arrive with their swords resting upon their necks, blood dripping from them. They will crowd at the gate of Paradise, and it will be asked, ‘Who are these?’ It will be said, ‘The martyrs; they were alive, being provided for.’
Then a caller will proclaim: ‘Let those whose reward is upon Allah arise and enter Paradise.’ He will proclaim a second time: ‘Let those whose reward is upon Allah arise and enter Paradise.’ They will ask, ‘And who are those whose reward is upon Allah?’ He will reply, ‘Those who used to pardon people.’
Then he will proclaim a third time: ‘Let those whose reward is upon Allah arise and enter Paradise,’ whereupon such-and-such thousands will stand and enter without any reckoning.” (3)
In the hadith of Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbas, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The first to be called to Paradise on the Day of Resurrection will be the al-ḥammādūn—those who praise Allah in prosperity and adversity.” (4)
It is also established in the two Ṣaḥīḥs and in Sunan al-Nasa’i—his wording—from the route of ‘Abd Allah ibn Tawus, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet ﷺ said, “We are the last [of nations] yet the first on the Day of Resurrection; we will be the first people to enter Paradise…,” the hadith in full.
