What Ḥumayd ibn Hilāl mentioned has also come down in a marfūʿ ḥadith, containing material in addition to what he related.
Al-Ṭabarānī said:
“Al-Ḥusayn ibn Isḥāq (1) narrated to us; Sahl ibn ʿUthmān (2) narrated to us; al-Musayyab ibn Sharīk narrated to us, from Bishr ibn Numayr, from al-Qāsim, from Abū Umāmah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, ‘Do the inhabitants of Paradise visit one another?’
He replied:
‘Those of the higher rank will visit those below, while the lower will not visit the higher—except for those who loved one another for the sake of Allah Most High; they may go wherever they wish, riding on she-camels, bearing saddle-cushions (3).’ (4)
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā also reported:
“Ḥamzah ibn al-ʿAbbās narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak narrated to us; Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us; Thaʿlabah ibn Muslim told me, from Ayyūb ibn Bashīr (5) al-ʿIjlī, from Shufayy ibn Māniʿ, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘Part of the bliss enjoyed by the people of Paradise is that they visit one another on swift mounts and noble steeds. In Paradise they will be brought horses that are saddled and bridled, which neither defecate nor urinate. They mount them and ride until they reach wherever Allah—Exalted is He—wills. Then a cloud will come to them containing things no eye has ever seen and no ear has ever heard. They will say, “Rain upon us,” and the rain will continue to fall on them until what they receive exceeds their fondest hopes. Thereafter Allah will send a gentle, harmless breeze that scatters dunes of musk to their right and to their left. The musk clings to the forelocks and manes of their horses, to their heads and their garments, and every man among them will have hair as magnificent as he wishes. That musk attaches itself to those locks, to the horses, and to everything else they wear.
Then they return until they reach wherever Allah—Exalted is He—wills. At that moment a woman will call out to one of them: “Servant of Allah, have you no need of us?” He will ask, “What are you? Who are you?” She will reply, “I am your wife and your beloved.” He will say, “I did not know where you were.” She will answer, “Do you not know that Allah, Most High, has said: ‘No soul knows what delights of the eye are kept hidden for them as a reward for what they used to do’ [as-Sajdah 32:17]?” He will reply, “Indeed, by my Lord.” Thereafter he may remain so absorbed—forty autumns—without turning back or returning to her, occupied only by the bliss and honor he is enjoying.’
This is a mursal ḥadith, extremely rare, and Allah knows best. (6)
