is his own seat—on pulpits of pearl, ruby, chrysoprase, gold, and emerald. Their eyes have never taken delight in anything like it, nor have they ever heard anything greater or more beautiful. Then they return to their abodes with satisfied gaze, while their eyes look forward to the same vision on the following day.
Abu Nuʿaym likewise transmitted, through the chain of Shubbān ibn Jasr ibn Farqad al-Sabakhī (1), from his father, from al-Ḥasan, from Abū Barzah al-Aslamī, in a hadith traced back to the Prophet ﷺ:
“Indeed, the people of Paradise set out in the morning wearing one robe and return in the evening wearing another—just as any one of you might visit and return from a king among the kings of this world. In the same manner they go and come to their Lord—exalted is He—according to appointed times and well-known landmarks; they know exactly the hour at which they will come before their Lord—exalted is He—.” (2)
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said: Dāwūd ibn ʿUmar narrated to us; ʿĀmir ibn Yasāf narrated to us, from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr, who said:
“Every man among the people of Paradise will have two vocalists who will make him hear the sanctification, praise, and magnification of Allah with a voice the like of which no creature has ever heard: ‘We are fair and beautiful; the wives of a noble people…,’” and he mentioned the rest as has preceded.
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā also said: Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥārith al-Khazzāz narrated to me; Sayyār ibn Ḥātim narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿArādah al-Shaybānī narrated to us, from al-Qāsim ibn al-Muṭṭalib al-ʿAjlī, from Mughīrah, from Ibrāhīm, who said:
“In Paradise there are maidens (ḥawāriyyāt) who recite the Qur’an in Arabic on the banks of the rivers of Paradise. Allah—exalted is He—makes the people of Paradise from the ummah of Muḥammad ﷺ enjoy them.”
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā also related from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr that the recitation of the Qur’an will be lifted from the people of Paradise except for Sūrah Ṭā Hā and Sūrah Yā Sīn.
[Mention of the horses of Paradise]
Al-Tirmidhī said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us; ʿĀṣim ibn ʿAlī narrated to us; al-Masʿūdī narrated to us, from ʿAlqamah ibn Marthad (3), from Sulaymān ibn Buraydah, from his father:
A man asked the Prophet ﷺ, “O Messenger of Allah, will there be horses in Paradise?” He replied, “If Allah admits you to Paradise, you will not wish to be carried upon a horse of red ruby that flies with you wherever you wish within Paradise except that it will happen.”
Another man asked, “O Messenger of Allah, will there be camels in Paradise?” The Prophet did not answer him as he had answered his companion; rather he said, “If Allah admits you to Paradise, there you shall have whatever your soul desires and whatever delights your eye.”
Al-Tirmidhī then narrated it through the chain of Suwayd, from Ibn al-Mubārak, from Sufyān, from ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sābiṭ, as a mursal report, and said: “This is the more authentic.” (4)
