for My sake. Therefore, let My servants listen.”
The angels will then raise voices of tahlil (proclaiming divine oneness), tasbih (glorification), and takbir (magnification)—tones such as they have never heard before.
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said: Dāwūd ibn ʿAmr al-Ḍabbī narrated to me; ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak narrated to us, from Mālik ibn Anas, from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, who said:
“When the Day of Resurrection comes, a herald will call out: ‘Where are those who kept their ears and their selves free from gatherings of frivolity and from the flutes of Satan in the world? Lodge them in the meadows of musk.’ Then He will say to the angels, ‘Let them hear My glorification and My praise, and inform them that no fear shall be upon them, nor shall they grieve.’ (1)
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā also said: Daththam (2) ibn al-Faḍl al-Qurashī narrated to us; Rowwād (3) ibn al-Jarrāḥ narrated to us, from al-Awzāʿī, who said:
“It has reached me that, among all of Allah’s creation, none possesses a voice more beautiful than Isrāfīl. Allah will command him, and he will begin to sing; whereupon every angel who is near to Allah in the heavens will interrupt his devotion, remaining so for as long as Allah wills. Then Allah—Exalted is He—will say, ‘By My might and My majesty, had My servants known the magnitude of My greatness, they would have worshipped none but Me.’ (4)
Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to me; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr narrated to us; Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān narrated, from Mālik ibn Dīnār, concerning Allah’s words, ‘And indeed, with Us he will have nearness and a goodly destination’ [Ṣād 38:25]:
“When the Day of Resurrection arrives, a lofty pulpit will be ordered and set up in Paradise. Then it will be proclaimed: ‘O David, glorify Me with that pleasant, melodious voice by which you used to glorify Me in the worldly abode.’ David’s voice will then draw out the bliss of the people of Paradise. That is His saying: ‘And indeed, with Us he will have nearness and a goodly destination’ [Ṣād 38:25]. (5)
[Another category, loftier than all that preceded]
It is their hearing the speech of the Lord—glorified be He—when He addresses them in the assemblies where they gather before Him, speaking to each one of them and reminding them of the deeds he sent on ahead in the world; likewise, when He manifests Himself to them openly and greets them with peace. We have already mentioned this while discussing His words, ‘Peace—a word from a Merciful Lord’ [Yā Sīn 36:58], and Jābir’s hadith on the matter has already been cited; it is found in Sunan Ibn Mājah and elsewhere. Abū Shaykh al-Aṣbahānī has also reported, through the chain of Ṣāliḥ ibn Ḥayyān from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Buraydah, who said: “The people of Paradise will enter each day upon the Compeller—glorious is His majesty—and He will recite the Qur’an to them while each of them sits in the place that…"
