This report, too, is weak through this particular chain, for it contains three unreliable transmitters: Maʿān, his teacher, and his teacher’s teacher.
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī said: “Aḥmad ibn Isḥāq Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Jawharī al-Baṣrī related to us; Makki ibn Ibrāhīm related to us; Mūsā ibn ʿUbaydah al-Rabadhī related to us, from Yazīd al-Raqāshī, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said:
The Messenger of Allah said, ‘Allah sent eight thousand prophets: four thousand to the Children of Israel and four thousand to the rest of mankind.’”
Mūsā and his teacher are likewise weak.
Abū Yaʿlā also said: “Abū’l-Rabīʿ related to us; Muḥammad ibn Thābit al-ʿAbdī related to us; Maʿbad ibn Khālid al-Anṣārī related to us, from Yazīd al-Raqāshī, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said:
The Messenger of Allah said, ‘Among my brethren of the prophets who have passed there were eight thousand prophets; then came Jesus, and after him I was sent.’”
Yazīd al-Raqāshī is weak.
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Ismāʿīlī likewise transmitted it from Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah: Aḥmad ibn Ṭāriq related to us; Muslim ibn Khālid related to us; Ziyād ibn Saʿd related to us, from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Ṣafwān ibn Salīm, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said:
The Messenger of Allah said, ‘I was sent after eight thousand prophets, four thousand of whom were from the Children of Israel.’”
This isnād is acceptable, yet I do not know the standing of this Aḥmad ibn Ṭāriq. Allah knows best.
Another report:
ʿAbd Allāh, the son of Imām Aḥmad, said: “I found in my father’s own handwriting: ʿAbd al-Mutāʿāl ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb related to me; Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Umawī related to us; Mujālid related to us, from Abū’l-Wadāk, who said:
Abū Saʿīd asked, ‘Do the Khārijites acknowledge the Dajjāl?’ I replied, ‘No.’ He said: The Messenger of Allah said, ‘I am the seal of a thousand—or more—prophets, and no prophet sent by Allah who was followed failed to warn his community about him. As for me, I have been shown concerning him what was not shown to any of them: he is one-eyed, whereas your Lord is not one-eyed…’”
