Paradise, saying:
“We are the comely ḥūr (wide-eyed maidens), created for noble husbands.” (1)
The ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā — a ḥadīth that is gharīb (singular, transmitted through only one chain)
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Nuʿaym said: Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar—reading from his own manuscript—narrated to us; Mūsā ibn Hārūn narrated to us; Ḥāmid ibn Yaḥyā al-Balkhī narrated to us; Yūnus ibn Muḥammad al-Muʾaddib narrated to us; al-Walīd ibn Abī Thawr narrated to us; Saʿd al-Ṭāʾī told me, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sābiṭ, from Ibn Abī Awfā, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Every man from among the people of Paradise will be married to four thousand virgins, eight thousand previously-married women, and one hundred ḥawrāʾ (a wide-eyed maiden). They will gather around him every seven days and will say, in voices so melodious that no creature has ever heard their like:
‘We are the everlasting, never to perish; we are the blissful, never to suffer; we are the content, never to be angered; we are the settled, never to depart. How fortunate is the one who belongs to us, and we to him.’” (2)
[The ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him)]
Al-Ṭabarānī said: Abū Rifāʿah ʿUmārah ibn Wathīmah ibn Mūsā ibn al-Furāt al-Miṣrī (3) narrated to us; Saʿīd ibn Abī Maryam narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar ibn Abī Kathīr narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Indeed, the spouses of the people of Paradise will sing to their husbands with voices more beautiful than any ever heard. Among what they sing is:
‘We are the fortunate and fair, the wives of noble people, looking on with delighted eyes.’
And among what they sing is:
‘We are the everlasting, and so we never die; we are the secure, and so we never fear; we are the settled, and so we never depart.’” (4)
[The ḥadīth of Abū Umāmah (may Allah be pleased with him)]
Jaʿfar al-Firyābī said: Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us; Khālid ibn Yazīd ibn Abī Mālik narrated to us, from his father, from Khālid ibn Maʿdān, from Abū Umāmah, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said:
“No servant enters Paradise without two of the ḥūr al-ʿīn (wide-eyed maidens) sitting at his head and feet, singing to him with the finest voice ever heard by humans or jinn. And it is not the piping of Satan.” (5)
