pulpits of light, upon which are the seats of the prophets. Those pulpits are ringed by other pulpits of gold bedecked with rubies and emeralds, upon which sit the martyrs and the ṣiddīqūn (the supremely truthful). Behind them the rest of the people sit upon those dunes.
Then Allah—exalted and majestic is He—will say, “I am your Lord; I have kept My promise to you. Ask of Me and I shall give you.” They will reply, “Our Lord, we ask You for Your good-pleasure.” He will say, “I am pleased with you, and with Me you shall have whatever you wish, and with Me there is even more.” Thus they will come to love the Day of Friday because of the goodness their Lord grants them on it. It is the day on which your Lord ascended the Throne, the day He created Adam, and the day on which the Hour will be established. ⦗1⦘
Al-Bazzār also narrated this ḥadith through the chain of Jahḍham ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from Abū Ṭaybah, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmayr, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Gabriel came to me carrying a white mirror in which there was a black spot. I asked, ‘What is this, O Gabriel?’ He replied, ‘This is Friday; your Lord presents it to you so that it may be an ʿīd for you and—after you—for your community. You will be the first, and the Jews and Christians will follow after you.’ I said, ‘What do we gain on that day?’ He said, ‘There is great good for you in it. In it there is an hour during which no servant asks his Lord for some good that has been allotted to him but He grants it; and if it has not been allotted, He stores up for him what is greater; and no servant seeks refuge in it from some evil that has been decreed for him but He protects him from what is greater.’
“I asked, ‘What is that black spot?’ He said, ‘It is the Hour, which will rise on a Friday. To us it is the chief of days, and in the Hereafter we call it Yawm al-Mazīd (the Day of Increase).’ I said, ‘And what is the Day of Increase?’ He said, ‘Your Lord has made in Paradise a broad valley of white musk. When Friday comes, the Exalted descends from Illiyyīn to His Throne. The Throne is then surrounded with pulpits of light, and the prophets come and sit upon them. Those pulpits are then encircled by chairs of gold; the ṣiddīqūn and the martyrs come and sit upon them. Then the people of Paradise arrive and sit upon the dunes.
“‘Their Lord—exalted and majestic is He—then manifests Himself to them so that they may gaze upon His Face, and He says, “I am the One who fulfilled My promise to you and completed My favor upon you. This is the station of My honor. Ask of Me.” They will ask Him for His pleasure, and He will say, “My pleasure is that I have settled you in My abode and granted you My honor. Ask of Me.” They will go on asking until their desires are exhausted, whereupon there will be opened up for them of His bounty that which no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard, and has never occurred to a human heart. This will last until the people disperse from the Friday gathering. Then the Exalted ascends upon His Throne, and with Him ascend the martyrs and the ṣiddīqūn”—and, as I think he said—“and the people of the lofty chambers return to their chambers: a white pearl without crack or flaw, or a red ruby, or a green emerald—its rooms and its doors are all of the same jewel. Through it flow their rivers; its fruits hang within reach; in it are their spouses and their servants. Nothing will be more desired or more eagerly awaited by them than the Day of Friday, so that they may receive yet more honor and yet another vision of His Face—glorified be He. For that reason it is called the Day of Increase.’”
Al-Bazzār then said, “We know of no one who narrated it from Anas except ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmayr Abū al-Yaqẓān and ʿUthmān ibn Ṣāliḥ.”
