be intoxicated. (al-Wāqiʿah 56:17–19) —that is, it will leave them with no headache and will not strip their minds of clarity.
And in another verse He says:
“ They will be given to drink a nectar, sealed (25);
its seal is musk, so for this let the competitors compete (26);
its mixture will be of tasnīm (27),
a spring from which those brought near will drink.” (al-Muṭaffifīn 83:25–28)
We have already mentioned in the Tafsīr, on the authority of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, that groups from among the people of Paradise will assemble for their drink just as the people of this world gather together. A cloud will then pass over them and say, “What would you like me to rain upon you?” Whatever they desire, it will shower down upon them, until one of them says, “Rain upon us kawāʿib atraabā (maidens with full breasts and equal in age),” whereupon it rains those very maidens upon them. (1)
It was also mentioned earlier that they will gather beneath the Tree of Ṭūbā and recall the pastimes of the worldly life—namely, delight and merriment. Allah will then send a breeze from Paradise that will set that tree swaying with every form of entertainment that ever existed in the world.
Some reports state that a company of the people of Paradise will ride along in a single file; whenever they pass by one of the trees of Paradise, it bends aside so as not to break their line or scatter them, and presents them with its fruit. All of this is out of Allah’s bounty toward them and His mercy upon them—so to Him belong all praise and favor. Concerning this He says: “There you will see bliss and a vast dominion.” (al-Insān 76:20)
The akwāb are cups that have neither handles nor spouts; the abārīq, by contrast, possess both handles and spouts; and the kās is the goblet that contains the drink.
Allah the Exalted says: “and a brimming cup” (an-Nabaʾ 78:34)—that is, one that is filled to the rim with no deficiency. He also says: “They will hear therein no idle talk nor falsehood” (78:35), meaning that while they drink no frivolous or worthless speech will be uttered, nor will they accuse one another of lying, as the drinkers of this world do. Likewise, He says: “They will hear therein no idle talk—only ‘Peace!’” (Maryam 19:62); and: “They will hear therein neither idle talk nor sinful speech (25) —only ‘Peace, peace.’” (al-Wāqiʿah 56:25–26); and: “You will not hear therein any vain talk.” (al-Ghāshiyah 88:11).
It is authentically reported in the Two Ṣaḥīḥs from Ḥudhayfah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not drink from vessels of gold and silver, nor eat from plates made of them, for they are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter.” (2)
Mention of the clothing, ornaments, and garments of the people of Paradise—we ask Allah for His abundant favor:
“Upon them will be garments of green fine silk and heavy brocade; they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink (21)….”
