and Abū Hurayrah – may Allah be pleased with him – they both said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about the verse, “and pleasant dwellings in Gardens of Eternal Residence” (al-Ṣaff 61:12). He replied:
“A palace fashioned from a single pearl. Inside that palace are seventy mansions of red ruby; in every mansion are seventy apartments of green emerald; in every apartment are seventy couches; upon every couch are seventy spreads, each of a different color; upon every spread is a wife from among the ḥūr al-ʿayn; in every apartment are seventy tables, and upon every table are seventy kinds of food; in every apartment are seventy page-boys and maidservants. Each morning the believer will be endowed with the strength to enjoy all of that in its entirety.”
I say: This ḥadith is strange; rather, it is more likely to be fabricated. When a report is weak and its chain cannot be connected—Jisr, in this isnād, is extremely weak—Allah, exalted be He, knows best (1).
Ibn Wahb said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Zayd ibn Aslam narrated to us, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“A palace composed of a single pearl will be brought for one man. Inside that palace are seventy chambers; in each chamber is a wife from the ḥūr al-ʿayn; in every chamber are seventy doors, and through every door enters a fragrance from Paradise other than the scent that comes through the next door.”
He then recited: “No soul knows what comfort of eyes has been concealed for them” (al-Sajdah 32:17). (2)
Al-Qurṭubī also recorded, through the route of Abū Hudbah Ibrāhīm ibn Hudbah—owner of a spurious collection—from Anas ibn Mālik in a marfūʿ report:
“In Paradise there are chambers that have no hooks hanging from above and no pillars supporting them from below.”
It was asked, “O Messenger of Allah, how will their inhabitants enter them?” He said, “They will enter them like birds.”
It was asked, “O Messenger of Allah, for whom are they?” He said, “For those who suffered illnesses, pains, and trials.” (3)
[Section: The Tents of Paradise]
Allah, exalted is He, says: “Houris, secluded in pavilions. Which of your Lord’s favors will you both then deny?” (al-Raḥmān 55:72-73).
It is authentically established in the two Ṣaḥīḥs—the wording is that of Muslim—from the ḥadith of Abū ʿImrān al-Jawni, on the authority of Abū Bakr ibn
