from Abū Rabīʿah—namely ʿUmar ibn Rabīʿah—through al-Ḥasan, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about Paradise. He replied:
“Whoever enters Paradise will live and never die, will enjoy bliss and never suffer distress; his garments will never wear out, and his youth will never fade.”
It was asked, “O Messenger of Allah, how is it built?” He said:
“A brick of gold and a brick of silver; its mortar is the purest fragrant musk; its pebbles are pearls and rubies; and its soil is saffron.” ⦗1⦘
Al-Bazzār said: Bishr ibn Ādam narrated to us; Yūnus ibn ʿUbayd Allāh al-ʿUmayrī ⦗2⦘ narrated to us; ʿAdiyy ibn al-Faḍl narrated to us; al-Jurayrī narrated to us, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“Allah created Paradise with a brick of gold and a brick of silver, and its mortar is musk. Then He said to it, ‘Speak!’ So it said: ‘Successful indeed are the believers.’ The angels thereupon said to it, ‘Blessed are you—abode of kings.’ ”
Al-Bayhaqī also transmitted it, and in his wording it reads:
“Then Allah said: ‘Blessed are you—abode of kings.’ ” It was likewise narrated by Wuhaib from al-Jurayrī, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd as a marfūʿ report. ⦗3⦘
In the ḥadīth of Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind, from Anas, marfūʿ:
“Indeed, Allah built al-Firdaws with His own Hand, and He has forbidden it to every idolater and to every habitual drunkard, a heavy drinker.” ⦗4⦘ ⦗5⦘
Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah said: Muʿāwiyah ibn Hishām narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn Ṣāliḥ ⦗6⦘ narrated to us, from ʿUmar ibn Rabīʿah, from al-Ḥasan, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said: It was asked, “O Messenger of Allah, how is the construction of Paradise?” He replied:
“A brick of silver and a brick of gold; its mortar is the most fragrant musk; its pebbles are pearls and rubies; and its soil is saffron.” ⦗7⦘
Al-Ṭabarānī said: Aḥmad ibn Khulaid related to us: Abū al-Yamān al-Ḥakam ibn Nāfiʿ narrated to us; Ṣafwān ibn ʿAmr narrated to us, from Muhājir ibn Maymūn, from Fāṭimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, that she said to the Prophet ﷺ, “Where is our mother Khadījah?” He answered:
“In a house of qasab in which there is neither clamour nor fatigue, situated between Mary daughter of ʿImrān and Āsiyah, the wife of Pharaoh.”
She asked, “Do you mean this qasab (i.e., cane)?” He replied:
“No—rather, of qasab fashioned with coral, pearls, and rubies.”
Al-Ṭabarānī said: “This is reported from Fāṭimah only by this chain; Ṣafwān ibn ʿAmr is its sole transmitter.” I say: “It is a gharib ḥadīth, yet its opening portion has a corroborating report in the Ṣaḥīḥ: ‘Allah has commanded me to give Khadījah the good news of a house in Paradise made of qasab in which there is neither noise nor toil.’ ” ⦗8⦘
