and done righteous deeds, We shall surely grant them lofty chambers in the Garden beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. How excellent is the reward of those who labour!” (Surah al-ʿAnkabūt, 29:58).
He also said:
“Those are the ones who will be recompensed with the chamber because they were patient, and they will be met therein with greeting and peace.” (Surah al-Furqān, 25:75).
It is established in the Two Ṣaḥīḥs—Muslim’s wording—from the ḥadīth of Mālik, from Ṣafwān ibn Sulaym, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Indeed, the people of Paradise will behold the people of the chambers above them just as you behold a brilliant, distant star on the horizon in the east—or the west—because of the difference in rank between them.”
They said, “Messenger of Allah, are those the dwellings of the prophets, which none but they can reach?”
He replied, “Yes indeed; by Him in Whose hand is my soul, they are men who believed in Allah and affirmed the messengers.” (1)
The Two Ṣaḥīḥs likewise record—from Abū Ḥāzim, from Sahl ibn Saʿd—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Surely the people of Paradise will behold the chamber in Paradise just as you behold a star on the horizon of the sky.” (2)
Aḥmad narrated: Fazzārah related to us; Fulayḥ informed me, from Hilāl—meaning ibn ʿAlī—from ʿAṭāʾ, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The people of Paradise will look at one another in Paradise just as you see—or just as you look at—the brilliant, distant star rising on the horizon, because of the different degrees.”
They asked, “Messenger of Allah, are those the prophets?”
He said, “Yes indeed, by Him in Whose hand is my soul, and also people who believed in Allah and affirmed the messengers.”
Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Ḍiyāʾ said: “This ḥadīth meets al-Bukhārī’s criteria.” (3)
Aḥmad also narrated: ʿAlī ibn ʿAyyāsh related to us; Muḥammad ibn Muṭarrif related to us; Abū Ḥāzim, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Those who love one another for Allah’s sake—their chambers in Paradise will be seen like the rising star in the east or the west.”
It will be asked, “Who are these people?”
And it will be said, “These are the ones who loved one another for Allah’s sake—Exalted is He.” (4)
In the ḥadīth of ʿAṭiyyah, from Abū Saʿīd, marfūʿ:
“Indeed, the people of ʿIlliyyīn will be seen by those beneath them just as you see the star on the horizon of the sky; Abū Bakr and ʿUmar are among them—and what an excellent pair they are!” (5) (6)
