Abu ʿAmr ibn al-Sammak also transmitted—through Yaḥyā ibn Jaʿfar, from Shabābah, from Ḥarīz ibn ʿUthmān, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Maysarah (1), together with Ḥabīb ibn ʿUbayd al-Raḥabī (2)—on the authority of Abu Umāmah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared:
“By the intercession of a man from my community, a multitude equal to one of the two tribes, Rabiʿah or Muḍar, will enter Paradise.”
Someone asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what are Rabiʿah and Muḍar?” He replied, “I only repeat what I have been made to say.” The elders used to hold that this man was ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān—may Allah be pleased with him—(3).
Muhammad ibn Yūsuf al-Firyābī said: Sufyān al-Thawrī related to us, from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Shaqīq al-ʿUqaylī (4), who said:
I sat with a company of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ in which was ʿAbd Allah ibn Abī al-Jadʿāʾ. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
“By the intercession of a man from my community, more people will surely enter Paradise than the tribe of Banū Tamīm.”
They asked, “Other than you, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied, “Other than me.” Al-Firyābī added: It is said that the man intended is ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān—may Allah be pleased with him. Al-Bayhaqī, al-Tirmidhī, Ibn Mājah and others also reported this ḥadīth through several chains from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ. Al-Tirmidhī graded it ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ and noted that Ibn Abī al-Jadʿāʾ has no other ḥadīth besides this (5).
Al-Tirmidhī likewise records—via Abū Muʿāwiyah, from Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Qays al-Asadī, from al-Ḥārith ibn ʿUqaysh (6)—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Among my community there is one by whose intercession more people will enter Paradise than the tribe of Muḍar, and among my community there is one who will swell within the Fire until he becomes one of its corners.”
Ahmad and Ibn Mājah narrated it as well through multiple chains from Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind. In another wording reported by Ahmad:
“Among my community is one who will intercede for more people than the tribes of Rabiʿah and Muḍar, and among my community is one who will grow so vast in the Fire that he will serve as a pillar of its pillars.” (7)
Al-Bayhaqī narrated—on the authority of Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh, from Hishām, from al-Ḥasan—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Through the intercession of a man from my community, more people will enter Paradise than the tribes of Rabiʿah and Muḍar.”
Hishām said: Hawshab informed me, from al-Ḥasan, that this man is Uways al-Qaranī. Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh said: I asked a man from his people, “By what means did Uways …”
