he will fall down in prostration for the length of another Friday.
Allah will then say, “Raise your head, speak and you will be heard, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.”
The Prophet continued: He will again move to prostrate, but Gabriel will take him by his upper arms (1), and there will be opened to him supplications the like of which has never been opened to any human being. He will say, “My Lord, You created me the master of the children of Adam—and I make no boast—and the first for whom the earth will split open on the Day of Resurrection—and I make no boast—until my Basin is brought to me, wider than the distance between Ṣanʿāʾ and Aylah.
“Then it will be said: ‘Summon the prophets.’ A prophet will come with a small band, a prophet with five or six followers, and a prophet with no follower at all.
“Then it will be said: ‘Call the most truthful (al-ṣiddīqūn),’ and they will intercede.
“Then it will be said: ‘Call the martyrs,’ and they will intercede for whomever they wish.
“When the martyrs have done so, Allah—Exalted is He—will say: ‘I am the Most Merciful of the merciful. Admit into My Paradise whoever never associated anything with Me.’
“They will enter Paradise. Then Allah—Exalted is He—will say: ‘Look into the Fire; do you find there anyone who ever performed any good deed at all?’
“They will find in the Fire a man, and he will be asked, ‘Did you ever do any good?’ He will reply, ‘No—except that I used to be lenient with people in selling.’ Allah—Exalted is He—will say: ‘Be lenient (2) with My servant as he was lenient with My servants.’
“They will then bring out of the Fire another man, who will be asked, ‘Did you ever do any good?’ He will answer, ‘No—except that I instructed my children: When I die, burn me, then grind me, and when I have become like kohl, carry me to the sea and scatter me to the wind. By Allah, the Lord of all worlds will never be able to bring me back.’ (3)
“Allah—Exalted is He—will say to him, ‘Why did you do that?’ He will reply, ‘Out of fear of You.’
“Allah—Exalted is He—will then say: ‘Look at the kingdom of the greatest king; you shall have the like of it and ten times as much.’
“The man will say, ‘Are You mocking me while You are the King?’”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “That is the one at whom I laughed this morning,” and we have spoken about this hadith at the end of the Musnad of al-Ṣiddīq (may Allah be pleased with him). (4)
(1) Literally, his two upper arms.
(2) Reading ismḥū (be lenient).
(3) i.e., that He would not be able to resurrect me.
(4) See the discussion at the close of the Musnad of Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq.
