The narration of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd
The report transmitted by ʿAlqamah from him regarding the ḥawḍ (the Prophet’s Pool) and the Praiseworthy Station, which contains a mention of intercession, has already been cited.(1)
The narration of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī ʿAqīl
Al-Bayhaqī said: “Abū al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Faḍl al-Qaṭṭān related to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar related to us; Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān(2) related to us; Aḥmad ibn Yūnus related to us; Zuhayr related to us; Abū Khālid Yazīd al-Asadī related to us; ʿAwn ibn Abī Juḥayfah al-Suwaʾī related to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAlqamah al-Thaqafī related to us, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī ʿAqīl, who said:
‘I set out to the Prophet ﷺ as part of a delegation. We came to him and dismounted at the door, and there was no one among the people we disliked more than the man we were about to enter upon. Yet when we left, there was no one among the people we loved more than the man we had just visited.
One of us said, “O Messenger of Allah, will you not ask your Lord for a dominion like the dominion of Solomon?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed and then said:
“Perhaps your companion possesses with Allah something better than the kingdom of Solomon. Allah has never sent a prophet without granting him one supplication: some used it for worldly ends and it was granted to them, and some invoked it against their people when they disobeyed, so they were destroyed by it. As for me, Allah, Exalted be He, has given me a supplication, and I have kept it in reserve with my Lord as intercession for my community on the Day of Resurrection.”’
I say: Its chain of transmission is unusual yet sound, and the ḥadīth itself is rare.(3)
The narration of the Commander of the Faithful ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (may Allah be pleased with him)
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Yaʿlā said: “Ishāq narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn Yūnus narrated to us; ʿAnbasah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAnbasah al-Qurashī narrated to us, from ʿAllāq ibn Abī Muslim, from Abān ibn ʿUthmān, from ʿUthmān (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Three groups will intercede on the Day of Resurrection: the prophets, then the scholars, then the martyrs.”’
Al-Bazzār said: “ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ghiyāth narrated to us; ʿAnbasah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, from ʿAllāq ibn Abī Muslim.”
He added: “I have also found it in another place in my possession: from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAllāq, from Abān, from ʿUthmān, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
‘The first to intercede on the Day of Resurrection will be the prophets, then the martyrs, then the believers.’”
Al-Bazzār remarked: “This ʿAnbasah is soft in ḥadīth, and as for ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAllāq, we know of no one besides ʿAnbasah who narrated from him.”(4)
