among the nations, and the very first to be called to account. The other nations will draw aside for us, and we shall pass through with radiant faces and gleaming limbs, shining from the effects of ablution. The nations will say, “This community came close to being prophets, every last one of them!”
I shall then come to the gate of Paradise, seize its ring, and knock. It will be asked, “Who are you?” I will reply, “Muḥammad.” It will thereupon be opened for me, and I will go to my Lord—Exalted is He—while He is upon His kursī (Footstool), or upon His Throne; Ḥammād (the narrator) was uncertain. I will fall prostrate before Him and praise Him with praises that no one before me has ever uttered and that no one after me will ever utter.
It will be said, “O Muḥammad, raise your head, ask and you shall be granted, speak and you shall be heard, intercede and your intercession shall be accepted.”
I shall raise my head and say, “My Lord, my community, my community!” He will say, “Bring out of the Fire whoever has in his heart a weight of such-and-such.” (Ḥammād did not recall the exact measure.)
I will then return, prostrate, and say what I said before. It will be said, “Raise your head, speak and you shall be heard, ask and you shall be granted, intercede and your intercession shall be accepted.” I will say, “My Lord, my community, my community!” He will reply, “Bring out of the Fire whoever has in his heart a weight of such-and-such, less than the first.” I will return once more, prostrate, and repeat the same. It will be said to me, “Raise your head, speak and you shall be heard, ask and you shall be granted, intercede and your intercession shall be accepted.” I will say, “My Lord, my community, my community!” He will say, “Bring out of the Fire whoever has in his heart such-and-such, even less than that.”
Ibn Mājah has transmitted part of this report through the chain of Ḥammād ibn Salamah, from Saʿīd ibn Iyyās al-Jurayrī, from Abū Naḍrah al-Munḏhir ibn Mālik ibn Qiṭʿah, from Ibn ʿAbbās.
We have already mentioned, under the second and third categories of intercession, those people who were ordered toward the Fire yet will never actually enter it.⦗1⦘
Another route from him:
Al-Ṭabarānī narrated in his Muʿjam al-Kabīr, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ, from Ibn ʿAbbās, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “My intercession is for the major sinners of my community.”⦗2⦘
