Maymūn; al-Naḍr ibn Anas narrated to me, from Anas, who said:
Gabriel came to the Prophet ﷺ at a moment when the servants’ affair had reached its appointed time. He said, “Draw near to your Lord and ask intercession for your community.”
The Prophet continued, “So I drew near the Throne and stood beside it. I experienced what no prophet and no angel brought near had ever experienced. He said: ‘Ask and you shall be granted; intercede and your intercession shall be accepted.’ I said: ‘My community …’”
He then related the rest of the ḥadith, in wording similar to what Imam Aḥmad transmitted. (2)
Transmission of Buraydah ibn al-Ḥuṣayb
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said: ʿAlī ibn Maʿbad (3) narrated to us; al-Aswad ibn ʿĀmir narrated to us; Abū Isrāʾīl narrated to us, from al-Ḥārith ibn Ḥaṣīrah, from Ibn Buraydah, from his father, who said:
I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, “I hope to be allowed to intercede for my community in a number equal to every stone and every clod of earth.” (4)
[Transmission of Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh]
Imam Aḥmad said: Yaʿmar (5) narrated to us; ʿAbdullāh (6) narrated to us; Hishām narrated to us. He said: I heard al-Ḥasan relate, on the authority of Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Every prophet had one supplication that was certainly answered, and he has already used it. I, however, have reserved my supplication as an intercession for my community on the Day of Resurrection.” Aḥmad alone transmitted it through this chain. (7)
[Another route]
Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Bayhaqī said: Abū al-Ḥasan Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Dāwūd al-ʿAlawī narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Ḥamdawayh ibn Sahl al-Marwazī—Abū Naṣr al-Ghāzī—narrated to us; ʿAbdullāh ibn Ḥammād al-Āmulī (8) narrated to us; Ṣafwān ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us; al-Walīd narrated to us; Zuhayr ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; [Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad narrated to us], from his father, from Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “My intercession on the Day of Resurrection is for the major sinners of my community.”
I asked, “What does that mean, O Jābir?”
He replied, “Yes, O Muḥammad. Whoever’s good deeds outweigh his bad deeds—that is the one who will enter Paradise without…"
