say: “Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his seat in the Fire.” Yes, I myself heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say this.
Al-Ṭabarani said: No one transmitted it from Muʿarraf ibn Wasil except Salih ibn Ishaq al-Jahbid (1).
[A rare report with an astonishing chain]
Abu Bakr ibn Abi al-Dunya said: Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Qurashi narrated to us; Talhah ibn Sinan narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Abjar (2) narrated to us, from al-Shaʿbi, from Abu Hurayrah, who said:
“On the Day of Resurrection Hell will be brought, led by seventy thousand reins; at every rein there will be seventy thousand angels. It will sway toward them until it is made to stand on the right side of the Throne, and on that day Allah will cast humiliation upon it. He will then reveal to it: ‘What is this humiliation?’ It will reply, ‘My Lord, I fear that You mean to take vengeance upon me.’ Allah will reveal to it: ‘I created you only as an instrument of vengeance; I have no vengeance to take upon you.’ He will then inspire it once more, and it will exhale a breath that leaves no eye tearless. Then it will exhale again, and no near angel or sent prophet will remain but that he falls unconscious—except your Prophet, the Prophet of mercy, who will say, ‘My Lord, my community, my community!’ (3)
[Another of the strangest reports, from Kaʿb al-Ahbar]
The ḥāfiẓ Abu Nuʿaym al-Isbahani said: My father narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Baghdadi narrated to us; Ibrahim ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Junayd narrated to us; ʿUbayd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAʾishah narrated to us; Salm al-Khawwās (4) narrated to us, from Furāt ibn al-Sāʾib, from Zādhān, who said:
“I heard Kaʿb al-Ahbar say: When the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah will gather the first and the last upon a single plain, and the angels will descend and form ranks. Allah, exalted is He, will say, ‘O Jibril, bring Me Hell.’ Jibril will bring it, dragged by seventy thousand reins. When it reaches a distance from the creation equal to a journey of one hundred years, it will roar, and the hearts of all creatures will leap. Then it will roar a second time, and no near angel nor sent prophet will remain but that he falls to his knees. Then it will roar a third time; hearts will rise to the throats and minds will be confounded. Every person will flee to his own deeds, until Abraham the Friend (peace be upon him) says, ‘By my friendship with You, today I ask only for myself.’ Moses (peace be upon him) will say, ‘By my intimate discourse with You, I ask only for myself.’ Jesus (peace be upon him) will say, ‘By the honor You granted me, I ask only for myself; I do not even ask for Mary who bore me.’ But Muhammad ﷺ will say, ‘My community, my community! Today I do not ask for myself; I ask only for my community.’
“The Majestic One—glorified is His majesty—will answer him: ‘My friends from your community shall have no fear, nor shall they grieve. By My might and My magnificence…’”}
