Abu Bakr ibn Abī al-Dunyā said: Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbās narrated to us; Ḥammād al-Jazarī narrated to us; from Zayd ibn Rufay‘ ⦗1⦘, in a marfū‘ report, who said:
“When the people of the Fire enter it, they will weep tears for a span of time, then they will weep pus for a span of time. The wardens will say to them, ‘O company of the wretched! You abandoned weeping in the abode whose people were shown mercy, and now you weep in the abode whose people are shown no mercy. Do you find today anyone to whom you can cry for help?’
“They will then raise their voices: ‘O people of Paradise! O our fathers, mothers, children and kinsfolk! We came forth from the graves thirsty, we remained throughout the standing thirsty, and today we are in the Fire thirsty. So pour down upon us some water, or whatever Allah has provided you.’
“They will plead for forty years, and no one will answer them. Then Mālik will reply, ‘Indeed, you shall remain!’ [Qur’an 43:77]. At that they will despair of every good.” ⦗2⦘
Allah, Exalted is He, says: “The Fire will scorch their faces, and they, therein, will grimace” (Qur’an 23:104).

Ibn Mardawayh said: Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā al-Qazzāz narrated to us; al-Khiḍr ⦗4⦘ ibn ‘Alī ibn Yūsuf al-Qaṭṭān narrated to us; the paternal uncle of al-Ḥārith ibn al-Khiḍr ⦗5⦘ al-Qaṭṭān narrated to us; Sa‘īd ibn Abī Sa‘īd al-Maqburī narrated to us, from his brother, from his father, from Abū al-Dardā’, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, regarding Allah’s words, “The Fire will scorch their faces,” said: “A scorching blast will strike them, and their flesh will run down over their heels.” ⦗6⦘ May Allah grant us refuge from it.
