Muslim likewise relates it—through Mālik and along several other chains from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd—with the same wording.
Mūsā ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us; Dāwūd ibn Abī al-Furāt narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Buraydah narrated to us, from Yaḥyā ibn Yaʿmar, from ʿĀʾishah who said:
“I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the plague, and he told me, ‘It is a punishment that Allah sends upon whom He wills among His servants, yet Allah has made it a mercy for the believers. No one in whose land the plague appears, then remains there patient, seeking Allah’s reward and certain that nothing will befall him except what Allah has written for him, will fail to receive a reward equal to that of a martyr.’”
Al-Bukhārī alone transmits this version through this chain; Muslim does not narrate it in this form.
Another ḥadīth:
Al-Bukhārī said: Qutaybah narrated to us; al-Layth narrated to us, from Ibn Shihāb, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah:
“The Quraysh were anxious about the case of a woman of Banū Makhzūm who had committed theft. They said, ‘Who will speak to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about her?’ They replied, ‘No one would dare except Usāmah ibn Zayd, the beloved of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.’ Usāmah spoke to him, whereupon the Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Are you interceding regarding one of Allah’s prescribed penalties?!’ He then stood up, delivered a sermon, and said, ‘Those who were before you were destroyed because, when a noble person among them stole, they left him alone, but when a weak person stole, they applied the penalty to him. By Allah, were Fāṭimah the daughter of Muḥammad to steal, I would cut off her hand.’”
The rest of the compilers also record it through various routes from al-Layth ibn Saʿd.
Another ḥadīth:
Al-Bukhārī said: Ādam narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Maysarah narrated to us: I heard al-Nazzāl ibn Sabrah al-Hilālī relate from Ibn Masʿūd who said:
“I heard a man recite a verse, while I had heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite it differently. I brought him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him of the discrepancy, and I noticed displeasure on the Prophet’s face. He said, ‘Both of you are doing well; do not differ…’”
