and We assigned for them comrades who beautified for them what lay before them and what lay behind them; so the Word became inevitable for them, along with the communities of jinn and humankind that passed away before them—truly they were losers. [25] The disbelievers said, “Do not listen to this Qur’an; drown it out so that you may prevail.” [26] Therefore We shall surely make the disbelievers taste a severe punishment, and We will certainly recompense them with the worst of what they used to do. [27] That is the reward of the enemies of Allah: the Fire—in it they will have the Everlasting Abode—as a recompense for persistently denying Our signs. [28] The disbelievers will say, “Our Lord, show us the two who led us astray, of jinn and of humans, and we shall trample them under our feet so that they become the lowest.” [29] (Qur’an 41:25–29)
And He, exalted, says:
“Indeed, the criminals will abide forever in the punishment of Jahannam; [74] it will not be lightened for them, and there they will be plunged into despair. [75] We did not wrong them; rather, they were the wrongdoers. [76] They will cry out, ‘O Mālik, let your Lord finish us off!’ He will say, ‘You are to remain.’ [77] We certainly brought you the truth, but most of you detest the truth.” (Qur’an 43:74–78)
And He says:
“Verily the tree of Zaqqum [43] will be the food of the sinner, [44] like molten metal, boiling in the bellies [45] as boiling water boils. [46] ‘Seize him and drag him into the midst of Jahim; [47] then pour over his head a torment of scalding water. [48] Taste—indeed you were the mighty, the noble! [49] This is what you used to dispute.’” (Qur’an 44:43–50)
And He says:
“The likeness of the Garden promised to the God-fearing: therein are rivers of water never stagnant, rivers of milk whose taste never changes, rivers of wine delightful to the drinkers, and rivers of purified honey. They will have in it every kind of fruit, and forgiveness from their Lord. Can this be compared to one who will abide in the Fire and be given boiling water to drink, which will tear their intestines apart?” (Qur’an 47:15)
And He says:
“The Day We shall say to Jahannam, ‘Are you filled?’ and it will reply, ‘Is there any more?’” (Qur’an 50:30)
And He says:
“The Day they are thrust toward the Fire of Jahannam with a violent thrust, [13] ‘This is the Fire you used to deny. [14] Is this sorcery, or do you not see? [15] Burn therein; whether you endure patiently or do not endure, it is all the same for you—you are only being repaid for what you used to do.’ [16]” (Qur’an 52:13–16)
And He says:
“No indeed! The Hour is their appointed time, and the Hour is more calamitous and more bitter. [46] Surely the criminals are in error and madness. [47] The Day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces: ‘Taste the touch of Saqar.’ [48] Indeed, We created everything in measure, [49] and Our command is but one, like the blink of an eye. [50] And We have already destroyed people like you; so is there anyone who will take heed?” (Qur’an 54:46–51)
And He says:
“The criminals will be recognized by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet. [41] Then which of your Lord’s favors will you both deny?” (Qur’an 55:41–42)
And He says:
“The people of the left—what of the people of the left? [41] They will be amid scorching wind and boiling water, [42] and the shade of black smoke, [43] neither cool nor pleasant. [44] Indeed, before that they lived lives of luxury, [45] and persisted in dreadful sin, [46]” (Qur’an 56:41–46)
And He says:
“So today no ransom will be accepted from you, nor from those who disbelieved. Your refuge is the Fire—it is your protector, and wretched is the destination.” (Qur’an 57:15)
And He says:
“O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are angels, stern and severe, who never disobey Allah in what He commands them, but do exactly what they are commanded.” (Qur’an 66:6)
And He says:
“O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh with them. Their refuge is Jahannam—how evil a destination!” (Qur’an 66:9)
And He says:
“For those who disbelieve in their Lord there is the punishment of Jahannam—what an evil destination! [6] When they are thrown into it they will hear it roaring as it boils up, [7] almost bursting with rage. Whenever a company is cast into it, its keepers will ask, ‘Did no warner come to you?’ [8] They will say, ‘Yes, a warner did come to us, but we denied him and said, “Allah has not sent down anything; you are only in great error.”’ [9] And they will say, ‘Had we but listened or used our reason, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze.’ [10] So they will confess their sin—away with the companions of the Blaze!” (Qur’an 67:6–11)
And He says:
“Such is the punishment, and the punishment of the Hereafter is even greater, if only they knew. [33]” (Qur’an 68:33)
And He says:
“But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, ‘Would that I had never been given my record, [25] and had never known what my account was! [26] Would that it had been the decisive end! [27] My wealth has not benefited me; [28] my power has vanished from me.’ [29] ‘Seize him and shackle him; [30] then roast him in the Blaze; [31] then, in a chain seventy cubits long, insert him.’ [32] For he did not believe in Allah, the Tremendous, [33] and he did not
