Qays ibn Muslim narrated from Ṭāwūs, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, “Teach the people my sunnah, even if they dislike it. And if you wish not to be detained upon the ṣirāṭ for even the blink of an eye before entering Paradise, then never introduce into the matter of Allah, Exalted is He, anything new based on your own opinion.”
The compiler then remarks: “This chain of transmission is unusual, yet the wording is sound (1).” Al-Qurṭubī cited it, and al-Ḍiyāʾ reproduced it in his Taʿlīqāt with a wording slightly longer than what al-Qurṭubī mentioned.
Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿArafah said: Marwān ibn Muʿāwiyah narrated to us, from Bakkār ibn Abī Marwān, from Khālid ibn Maʿdān, who said:
After the people of Paradise have entered Paradise they will say, “Did not our Lord promise us that we would come to the Fire?” and it will be said to them, “You have indeed passed over it while it was extinguished.”
Others have held that the intended meaning of al-wurūd (“coming to it”) is actual entry into it. This was the view of Ibn ʿAbbās, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rawāḥah, Abū Maysarah, and several others.
Imām Aḥmad said: Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb narrated to us, saying: Ghālib ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from Kathīr ibn Ziyād al-Bursānī, from Abū Sumayyah, who said:
We differed concerning al-wurūd. Some of us said, “A believer will never enter it,” while others said, “All people will enter it, after which Allah will deliver those who were mindful of Him.” I then met Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh and said to him, “We have disagreed about al-wurūd.” He replied, “They will all come to it”—Sulaymān once phrased it, “They will all enter it”—and he pointed with his two fingers toward his ears and said, “May they be deaf if I did not hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
‘There will remain no one, righteous or wicked, except that he will enter it; yet for the believer it will be coolness and peace, just as it was for Abraham, until the Fire itself will roar because of their coolness.’ Then We will save those who were mindful of Allah, and leave the wrongdoers therein on their knees (Maryam 19:72).”
This narration was not included in the major collections, yet it is ḥasan (2).
Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn Salmān (3) al-Najjād said: Abū al-Ḥasan Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ibrāhīm ibn ʿUbdah al-Sulayṭī narrated to us; Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿīd al-Būshanji narrated to us; Sulaym (4) ibn Manṣūr ibn ʿAmmār narrated to us; my father, Manṣūr ibn ʿAmmār, narrated to us; Bashīr (5) ibn Ṭalḥah al-Judhāmī (6) narrated to us, from Khālid ibn Durayk, from Yaʿlā ibn Munyah, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said:
“The Fire will say to the believer on the Day of Resurrection, ‘Pass through, O believer, for your light has extinguished my flames.’”
This ḥadīth is exceedingly rare in its transmission.
