the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When we reached al-Kadīd—or, he said, al-Qudayd—he related a ḥadīth in which he then declared:
“My Lord—exalted is He—has promised me that He will admit into Paradise from my ummah seventy thousand without any reckoning, and I hope that they will not enter it until you, together with the righteous among your wives and your offspring, have already taken up your abodes in Paradise.”
Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān also transmitted it from Ādam ibn Abī Iyās, from Shaybān, from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr with this chain. Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Ḍiyāʾ said, “In my judgment this chain meets the conditions of authenticity, and Allah knows best.” ⦗1⦘
[Another ḥadīth]
al-Ṭabarānī said: ʿAmr ibn Isḥāq ibn Zibriq al-Ḥimṣī narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us; my father narrated to me, from Ḍamḍam ibn Zurʿah, from Shurayḥ ibn ʿUbayd, from Abū Asmāʾ al-Raḥabī, from Thawbān, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say,
“Indeed my Lord has promised me that seventy thousand of my ummah will enter Paradise without reckoning, and with every thousand there will be another seventy thousand.” ⦗3⦘
[Another ḥadīth]
al-Ṭabarānī said: Aḥmad ibn Khulayد narrated to us; Abū Tawbah narrated to us; Muʿāwiyah ibn Sallām narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Sallām, who said that he heard Abū Sallām say: ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿĀmir related to me that Qays al-Kindī narrated to him that Abū Saʿīd al-Anmārī ⦗4⦘ narrated to him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Indeed my Lord—exalted is He—has promised me that He will admit into Paradise from my ummah seventy thousand without reckoning, and each thousand will intercede for seventy thousand, after which my Lord will take three handfuls with His two Hands.”
Qays said, “I asked Abū Saʿīd, ‘Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?’ He replied, ‘Yes, with my own ears, and my heart has retained it.’”
Abū Saʿīd continued: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ added, “That, if Allah wills, will encompass the emigrants of my ummah, and Allah will complete the remainder from our Bedouins.”
Al-Ṭabarānī remarked: “This is not reported from Abū Saʿīd al-Anmārī except through this chain; Muʿāwiyah ibn Sallām is its sole transmitter.”
Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Ḍiyāʾ said: “Muḥammad ibn Sahl ibn ʿAskar also narrated it from Abū Tawbah al-Rabīʿ ibn Nāfiʿ with this same chain.”
Abū Saʿīd said: “It was then calculated before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the total reached four thousand million and nine hundred.” ⦗5⦘
