present in his version of this narration the phrase: “they take omens.”
Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Ḍiyāʾ added, “This report is also related from ʿImrān through other routes.” (1)
Another hadith
Aḥmad said: Rawḥ ibn ʿUbādah narrated to us; Ibn Jurayj narrated to us; Abū al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh say, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ…”—and he mentioned a ḥadith, in which occurs:
“The first party will escape; their faces will be like the full moon on the night it is at its brightest—seventy thousand who will not be called to account. Those who follow them will shine like the brightest star in the sky,”
—and he likewise spoke of his vomiting.
Muslim also related it through Rawḥ, but he did not raise it to the Prophet. Al-Bazzār transmitted a similar report from ʿUmar ibn Ismāʿīl ibn Mujālid, from his father, from his grandfather, from al-Shaʿbī, from Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh, from the Prophet ﷺ, identical to the foregoing. (2)
Another hadith
Al-Bazzār said: Muḥammad ibn Mirdās narrated to us; Mubārak narrated to us; ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Ṣuhayb, from Anas, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“Seventy thousand of my community will enter Paradise without reckoning. They are those who do not cauterize themselves, do not seek ruqyah, do not take omens, and who place their trust in their Lord.” (3)
Another hadith
Al-Bazzār said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik narrated to us; Abū ʿĀṣim al-ʿAbbādānī narrated to us; Ḥumayd, from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared:
“Seventy thousand from my ummah will enter Paradise, and with every one of those seventy thousand there will be another seventy thousand.” (4)
This may mean with every thousand, or it may mean with every single individual; the latter reading is broader and yields a larger number.
Imām Aḥmad also said: ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us; Maʿmar narrated to us, from Qatādah, from Anas—or from al-Naḍr ibn Anas—from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stated:
“Allah—exalted is He—has promised me that He will admit into Paradise from my ummah four hundred thousand.”
Abū Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Increase us, O Messenger of Allah.”
The Prophet replied, “And the like of that,” joining his two hands together.
Abū Bakr again said, “Increase us, O Messenger of Allah.” The Prophet replied, “And the like of that.”
ʿUmar then said, “That is enough for you, Abū Bakr.”
Abū Bakr answered, “Leave me be, O ʿUmar,”
