[Another chain on his authority]
Aḥmad said:
ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us; Maʿmar narrated to us, from Qatādah, from al-Ḥasan, from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn, from Ibn Masʿūd, who said:
We spoke at length in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night, and the next morning we came back to him. He said:
“Last night the prophets were displayed before me along with their nations: a prophet would pass by accompanied by three men, another with a small band, another with only a handful, and yet another with no one at all. Then Moses passed before me with a great multitude (1) of the Children of Israel, and they impressed me.
I asked, ‘Who are these?’
I was told, ‘This is your brother Moses, and these are the Children of Israel.’
I said, ‘Where is my community?’
I was told, ‘Look to your right.’ I looked, and the hillocks (2) were filled with the faces of men. Then I was told, ‘Look to your left,’ and I looked, and the horizon was likewise filled with the faces of men.
It was said to me, ‘Are you pleased?’
I replied, ‘I am pleased, my Lord; I am pleased, my Lord.’
It was then said, ‘Together with these are seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without any reckoning.’”
The Prophet ﷺ added, “May my father and mother be sacrificed for you. If you can be among those seventy thousand, then do so; but if you fall short, be among the people of the hillocks, and if you fall short of that, be among the people of the horizon. For I saw people there jostling with one another.”
ʿUkāshah ibn Miḥṣan stood up and said, “O Messenger of Allah, pray that Allah make me one of the seventy thousand.” So he prayed for him. Another man then stood up and said, “O Messenger of Allah, pray that Allah make me one of them.” He replied, “ʿUkāshah has beaten you to it.”
(Ibn Masʿūd continued:) We then talked among ourselves and asked, “Whom do you think these seventy thousand are?” They said, “People born in Islam who never associated anything with Allah until they died.” That reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, “They are those who do not cauterize themselves, do not seek ruqyah, do not take omens, and who place their trust in their Lord.” (3)
[Another hadith]
Al-Ṭabarānī said:
Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Jadūʿī narrated to us; ʿUqbah ibn Mukram narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿAdī narrated to us, from Hishām ibn Ḥassān, from Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn, from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Seventy thousand from my community shall enter Paradise without reckoning and without punishment.”
It was asked, “Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?”
He replied, “They are those who do not cauterize themselves, do not seek ruqyah, do not take omens, and who place their trust in their Lord.” Muslim also transmitted it through Yaḥyā ibn Khalaf, from al-Muʿtamir, from Hishām ibn Ḥassān, with this chain, and in his version there is mention of ʿUkāshah, though it is not
