In the sound collections it is reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his Companions ate in the orchard of Abū al-Haytham ibn al-Tayyihān from the sheep that had been slaughtered for them, partook of fresh dates, and drank that water, he said:
“This is among the blessings about which you will be questioned.” (1)
That is, you will be asked whether you expressed proper gratitude and what deeds you offered in return.
A related hadith states:
“Dissolve your food with the remembrance of Allah and with prayer. Do not sleep upon it, or your hearts will grow hard.” (2)
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said: Yūsuf ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Wakīʿ narrated to us; Sufyān narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Thābit—or Abū Thābit—that a man entered the mosque of Damascus and supplicated:
“O Allah, comfort my loneliness, have mercy on my remoteness, and grant me a righteous companion.”
Abū al-Dardāʾ heard him and said, “If you are truthful, I am happier with what you have said than you are, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite,
‘Then among them are those who wrong themselves.’
He explained, ‘The one who wrongs himself is he from whom something is taken away in that very station—namely the sorrow and grief that befall him while he stands on the Day of Resurrection.’
Concerning, ‘and among them are those who are moderate,’ he said, ‘He will be called to an easy reckoning.’
And concerning, ‘and among them are those who outstrip others in good works’ (Fāṭir 32), he said, ‘He will enter Paradise without any reckoning.’ (3)
The reports about those who will enter Paradise without reckoning—and how many they are—will be cited later.
Here follows a hadith showing that Allah, Exalted is He, reconciles on behalf of a servant to whom He shows special care by compensating the person he wronged with visions of the palaces and delights of Paradise:
Abū Yaʿlā said: Mujāhid ibn Mūsā narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Bakr (4) narrated to us; ʿAbbād ibn Shaybah al-Ḥubbāṭī narrated to us, from Saʿīd ibn Anas, from Anas, who said:
While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting, we saw him laugh until his molars showed. ʿUmar asked, “What made you laugh, O Messenger of Allah? May my father and mother be ransomed for you!” He replied:
“Two men from my community knelt before Allah, Mighty and Majestic. One of them said, ‘My Lord, take my due from my brother.’ Allah said, ‘Give your brother what you owe him.’ He replied, ‘My Lord, none of my good deeds remain.’
“Allah, Mighty and Majestic, then said to the claimant, ‘What will you do with your brother when no good deeds remain for him?’ He answered, ‘My Lord, let him bear some of my sins.’
“At this the eyes of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ filled with tears, and he said, ‘Truly, that is a tremendous Day—a Day when people will desperately need someone to shoulder some of their burdens.’
“Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will say to the claimant, ‘Lift up your gaze and look into the gardens.’ He will raise his head and say, ‘My Lord, I see cities of silver and palaces of gold studded with pearls. For which prophet is this? For which truthful one? For which martyr?’
“All this,” Allah will say, “is for the one who pays the price.”
