concerning what passes between us in this world, together with our private sins?’ He replied,
‘Yes, it will indeed be brought up again, until every rightful claimant has been given his due.’
Al-Zubayr exclaimed, ‘By Allah, the affair is truly grave.’ ⦗1⦘
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā also said: Muḥammad ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Isḥāq ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; Abū Sinān ⦗2⦘ narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Sāʾib, from Zādhān, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, who said:
The nations will be kneeling for the Reckoning; and on that Day they will cling to one another more fiercely than they ever did in the world: a father to his son and a son to his father, a sister to her brother and a brother to his sister, a husband to his wife and a wife to her husband. Then ʿAbd Allāh recited: ‘And on that Day, no bonds of kinship will remain between them, nor will they ask one another’ (al-Muʾminūn 101). ⦗3⦘
The ḥadīth scholar Abū Bakr al-Bazzār said: al-Faḍl ibn Yaʿqūb narrated to us; Saʿīd ibn Maslamah narrated to us; Layth narrated to us, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
‘The ruler and his subject, the husband and the wife will be brought forth; the ruler and the subject will be called to account, and so will the husband and the wife, until it is said to a man, “On such-and-such a day you drank for sheer enjoyment,” and it is said to the husband, “You sought the hand of So-and-So among other suitors; I married her to you and left them.”’ ⦗4⦘
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā further said: ʿAmr ibn Ḥibbān, the freedman of Banū Tamīm, narrated to us; ʿAbdu ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us; Ibrāhīm ibn Muslim narrated to us, from Abū l-Aḥwaṣ, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘Allah will summon a servant on the Day of Resurrection and will remind him and enumerate for him: “You called upon Me on such-and-such a day, and I responded to you,” and He will count among what He counts: “You said, ‘My Lord, marry me to So-and-So,” and He will mention her by name—“so We married her to you.”’ ⦗5⦘
It has likewise been transmitted with similar wording in a narration by Layth ibn Abī Sulaym, from Abū Burdah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Salām, as a mawqūf report ⦗6⦘ to the same effect. ⦗7⦘
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā likewise said: Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿīd narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn ʿAtāʾ narrated to us; al-Faḍl ibn ʿĪsā narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir narrated to us, from Jābir, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘Disgrace will cling to the servant on the Day of Resurrection until he says, “My Lord, sending me to the Fire is easier for me than what I suffer of disgrace,” even though he knows full well the severity of its torment. Allah the Exalted has said: “Then, on that Day, you will surely be asked about the favor” (al-Takāthur 8).’ ⦗8⦘
