Aḥmad and al-Bayhaqī transmitted—through Yazīd ibn Hārūn, from al-Jurayrī, from Ḥakīm ibn Muʿāwiyah, from his father—that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“You will appear on the Day of Resurrection with fidām (1) muzzles over your mouths; the very first parts of the son of Adam to speak will be his thigh and his hand.” (2)
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said: Aḥmad ibn al-Walīd ibn Abān related to us; Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Makhzumī related to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Laythī related to us, from Ibn Shihāb, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yazīd al-Laythī, from Abū Ayyūb—may Allah be pleased with him—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The first dispute on the Day of Resurrection will be between a man and his wife. By Allah, her tongue will not speak; rather, her two hands and her two feet will bear witness against her regarding what she used to conceal from her husband, and his two hands and his two feet will testify about what he used to do to her. Then the man and his servants will be summoned, and the same will occur. After that the people of the market-places will be called. Not a single dāniq or qirāṭ (small coin) will be taken from them; instead, the good deeds of this one will be handed over to the one he wronged, and the sins of that one will be transferred to the one who wronged him. Then the tyrants will be brought with maqāmiʿ of iron, and it will be said, ‘Drive them to the Fire.’ By Allah, I do not know whether they will actually enter it, or whether it will be as Allah, Exalted is He, has said:
‘Every one of you will pass over it; this is with your Lord an irrevocable decree. Then We shall save those who were mindful of Him, and We shall leave the wrongdoers crouching therein.’ (Maryam 19:71–72).” (3)
Al-Bayhaqī then said: Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ related to us; Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ and al-Ḥasan ibn Yaʿqūb related to us; al-Sarī ibn Khuzaymah related to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd al-Muqriʾ related to us; Saʿīd ibn Abī Ayyūb related to us; Yaḥyā ibn Abī Sulaymān related to us, from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited the verse, ‘On that Day it will report its news, for your Lord will have inspired it’ (al-Zalzalah 99:4–5), and then asked, “Do you know what its news is?” They replied, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “Its news is that it will testify against every male and female servant concerning all they did upon its surface, saying, ‘He did such-and-such on such-and-such a day.’ That is its news.” Al-Tirmidhī and al-Nasāʾī also recorded it through ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak from Saʿīd ibn Abī Ayyūb; al-Tirmidhī said: it is ḥasan gharīb ṣaḥīḥ. (4)
Al-Bayhaqī likewise narrated—from al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī, through our uncle Ṣaʿṣaʿah, the uncle of the poet al-Farazdaq—that he said: “I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and heard him reciting the verse, ‘So whoever does an atom’s weight of good shall see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil shall see it’ (al-Zalzalah 99:7–8). He then declared, ‘By Allah, I would not mind if I heard nothing else; it suffices me, it suffices me.’” (5)
