and He, exalted is He, says:
“When Hell is set ablaze (12) and when Paradise is brought near (13) every soul will know what it has put forward. (14)” [al-Takwīr 81:12–14].
He also says:
“On the Day We shall say to Hell, ‘Are you filled?’ and it will say, ‘Are there any more?’ (30) And Paradise will be brought close to the God-fearing, not far away. (31) …” [Qāf 50:30–31].
And He says:
“We shall set up the just scales for the Day of Resurrection…” [al-Anbiyāʾ 21:47].
And He says:
“Indeed Allah does not wrong even the weight of a speck…” [al-Nisāʾ 4:40].
And Luqmān said to his son, as Allah has related:
“My dear son, were it but the weight of a mustard seed, and it were in a rock or in the heavens or in the earth, Allah would bring it forth. Surely Allah is Subtle, All-Aware.” [Luqmān 31:16].
Verses on this matter are exceedingly numerous.
Mention of a neck of the Fire being extended to the place of assembly so that it overlooks the people
Allah Most High says:
“And Hell will be brought that Day; on that Day man will remember, but of what use will the remembrance be to him? (23)” [al-Fajr 89:23].
Muslim narrates in his Ṣaḥīḥ: ʿUmar ibn Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth told us, my father told us, from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn Khālid al-Kāhilī, from Shaqīq, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,
“Hell will be brought on that Day with seventy thousand reins; with every rein are seventy thousand angels dragging it.” Thus al-Tirmidhī also transmitted it as a marfūʿ report, and from another chain both he and Ibn Jarīr recorded it as mawqūf (1).
Imām Aḥmad said: Muʿāwiyah related to us, Shaybān related to us, from Firās, from ʿAṭiyyah, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, from the Prophet ﷺ that he said:
“A neck will emerge from the Fire and will speak, saying, ‘I have been assigned today to three categories: every tyrant, everyone who sets up another deity alongside Allah, and everyone who kills a soul without right.’ It will coil around them and hurl them into the depths of Hell.” He alone transmitted it through this chain (2). A similar report will be cited in the chapter on the Scale from Khālid, from al-Qāsim, from ʿĀʾishah (3).
And He says:
“When they are flung into a narrow place therein, chained together, they will cry there for destruction. (13) ‘Do not cry today for one destruction, but cry for many destructions.’ (14)” [al-Furqān 25:13–14].
Al-Suddī said regarding, “When it sees them from a distant place,”—that is, a distance of one hundred years’ journey—“they will hear it raging,” meaning against them, “and roaring,” that is, from the intensity of its fury and hatred for those who associated partners with Allah and took another deity beside Him.
In the hadith:
“Whoever lies against me, or claims to belong to someone other than his own father, or affiliates himself to other than his patrons, let him take his seat between the two eyes of Hell.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, does it have eyes?” He replied, “Have you not heard Allah
