Reports Concerning the Lord Most High Addressing the Scholars on the Day the Judgement Is Decided

Al-Ṭabarānī said:
Aḥmad ibn Zuhayr narrated to us; al-ʿAlāʾ ibn Muslimah (1) narrated to us; Ibrāhīm al-Ṭālaqānī narrated to us; Ibn al-Mubārak narrated to us, from Sufyān, from Simāk ibn Ḥarb, from Thaʿlabah ibn al-Ḥakam, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Allah, exalted is He, will say to the scholars when He is seated upon His Throne to settle judgement: ‘I did not place (2) My knowledge and My wisdom in you except because I wish to forgive you for what you have done, and I am not concerned.’”

[I say:] The report is not sound; and even if it were, it would apply only to scholars who act on their knowledge. Allah knows best. (3)

Mention of His First Words—glorified and exalted is He—to the Believers

Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī said:
ʿAbd-Allāh ibn al-Mubārak narrated to us; Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb narrated to me, from ʿUbayd-Allāh ibn Zahr, from Khālid ibn Abī ʿImrān, from Abū ʿAyyāsh (4), from Muʿādh ibn Jabal, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Shall I inform you of the first words Allah—glorified and exalted is He—will say to the believers on the Day of Resurrection, and of the first words they will say to Him?”
They said, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah.”
He said, “Allah, exalted be He, will say to the believers on the Day of Resurrection, ‘Did you long to meet Me?’ They will reply, ‘Yes, our Lord.’ He will ask, ‘What moved you to that?’ They will answer, ‘Your pardon, Your mercy, and Your good pleasure.’ He will then declare, ‘I have therefore made My mercy incumbent upon you.’” (5)

Section

As for the disbelievers, Allah the Most High says:
“Indeed, those who trade the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a fleeting gain—such people will have no share in the Hereafter. Allah will neither speak to them nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and for them is a painful punishment.” [Āl ʿImrān 3:77]

And He, exalted is He, says:
“Indeed, those who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and sell it for a small price—such people are consuming nothing but fire in their bellies. Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them. (174) They are the ones who bought misguidance in exchange for guidance and punishment in exchange for forgiveness—how patient they are in the face of the Fire!” [al-Baqarah 2:174–175]

What is meant here is that He will neither speak to them nor look at them;
