ʿĪsā ibn Yūnus narrated from Zakariyyā, from ʿAṭiyyah, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Indeed I have a Pool whose length equals the distance from the Kaʿbah to Bayt al-Maqdis. It is whiter than milk, and its vessels are as numerous as the stars. Every prophet will call his own nation, and each prophet has a pool: some prophets will be approached by multitudes, others by a company, others by a small group, others by two men or by a single man, and some by no one at all. It will then be said to that prophet, ‘You certainly conveyed the message.’ As for me, I will have the greatest following of all the prophets on the Day of Resurrection.”
Ibn Mājah also transmitted this ḥadīth through Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah, from Muḥammad ibn Bishr, from Zakariyyā ibn Abī Zāʾidah, from ʿAṭiyyah ibn Saʿd al-ʿAwfī, from Abū Saʿīd, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in similar wording. (1)
Another ḥadīth:
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said: ʿAbbās ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, al-Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad al-Marwazī narrated to us, Miḥṣan ibn ʿUqbah al-Yamāmī narrated to us, from al-Zubayr ibn Shabīb, from ʿUthmān ibn Ḥāḍir, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about the standing before the Lord of the Worlds: will there be water on that occasion? He replied:
“Yes—by Him in Whose hand is my soul, there will indeed be water. The allies of Allah will arrive at the pools of the prophets, and Allah will send seventy thousand angels carrying staffs of fire, driving the disbelievers away from the pools of the prophets.”
This is a singular report through this chain and is not found in any of the Six Books; it has been cited previously.
It was likewise related earlier by al-Tirmidhī, al-Ṭabarānī, and others, from Saʿīd ibn Bashīr, from Qatādah, from al-Ḥasan, from Samurah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Every prophet has a pool, and they will boast about which of them has the larger number of visitors, and I hope to have the greatest number of visitors.” Al-Tirmidhī said: “This ḥadīth is gharib.”
Ashʿath ibn ʿAbd al-Malik also narrated it from al-Ḥasan as a mursal report, and that is the more authentic version. Al-Ṭabarānī likewise transmitted it through Khubayb ibn Sulaymān, from Samurah ibn Jundub, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“On the Day of Resurrection the prophets will vie with one another as to who has the largest company of followers, and I hope that on that day I will surpass them all. Each prophet will stand beside his own pool, filled to the brim, holding a staff with which he will summon those of his community whom he recognizes, and every community will bear a distinguishing mark by which its prophet will know them.” (2)
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā also said: Khālid ibn Khidāsh narrated to us, Ḥazm ibn Abī Ḥazm narrated to us: I heard al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī say: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When you do not find me, I will be your forerunner at the Pool. Every prophet has a pool, standing over …”
