Another chain from him
Al-Bukhārī said:
And Aḥmad ibn Shabīb ibn Saʿīd al-Ḥabṭī (1) reported to us: my father narrated to us, from Yūnus, from Ibn Shihāb, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab, from Abū Hurayrah, who used to relate that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“On the Day of Resurrection a group of my Companions will come to me, but they will be driven away (2) from the Pool. I will say, ‘My Lord, my Companions!’ and it will be said, ‘You have no knowledge of what they introduced after you; they turned back on their heels in retreat.’ ” (3)
He said:
And Shuʿayb related from al-Zuhrī that Abū Hurayrah used to narrate from the Prophet ﷺ: “…so they will be expelled,” while ʿUqayl said: “…so they will be driven away.” (4)
And al-Zubaidī narrated from al-Zuhrī, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, from ʿUbayd Allah ibn Abī Rāfiʿ (5), from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ (6).
All of this is muʿallaq (a suspended isnād). I have not found anyone who connected the chain for any of these versions from Abū Hurayrah, except that al-Bukhārī went on to say:
Aḥmad ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us; Ibn Wahb narrated to us; Yūnus informed me, from Ibn Shihāb, from Ibn al-Musayyab, who used to relate from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Men from among my Companions will arrive at the Pool, but they will be turned away from it. I will say, ‘My Lord, my Companions!’ and He will say, ‘You do not know what they introduced after you; they turned back on their heels in retreat.’ ” (7)
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said:
Yaʿqūb ibn ʿUbayd—and others—told me, from Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb (8), from Ḥammād ibn Zayd, from Kulthūm, the prayer-leader of the Banū Qushayr mosque (9), from al-Faḍl ibn ʿĪsā, from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
“It is as though I can see you returning from the Pool: a man meets another and says, ‘Did you drink?’ He answers, ‘Yes.’ Then a man meets another and says, ‘Did you drink?’ He answers, ‘No—how terribly thirsty I am!’ ” (10)
