from the report of ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar, through Khubayb, without mentioning Abū Saʿīd—and Allah knows best. (1)
Narration of Abū Hurayrah al-Dawsī (may Allah be pleased with him)
Al-Bukhārī said: “Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us; Anas ibn ʿIyāḍ narrated to us; from ʿUbayd Allah; from Khubayb; from Ḥafṣ ibn ʿĀṣim; from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘The area between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of Paradise, and my pulpit stands upon my Pool.’
Al-Bukhārī also recorded this ḥadīth, and Muslim did so as well through several chains from ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar. Al-Bukhārī likewise transmitted it through Mālik; both routes go through Khubayb ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān with the same wording. (2)
Another chain from him (may Allah be pleased with him)
Al-Bukhārī said: “Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Fulayḥ narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Hilāl narrated to me, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
‘While I was standing at the Pool, a group approached. After I had recognized them, a man came between me and them and said, “Come along.” I asked, “Where to?” He replied, “To the Fire, by Allah.” I said, “What is their offense?” He answered, “They turned back on their heels after you.”
Another group then approached; when I recognized them, a man came between me and them and said, “Come along.” I asked, “Where to?” He said, “To the Fire, by Allah.” I asked, “What is their offense?” He said, “They turned back on their heels. I do not think any will escape from them except a number as scarce as the stray camels.” (3)’
This version is recorded only by al-Bukhārī. (4)
Another chain from him (may Allah be pleased with him)
Muslim said: “ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sallām al-Jumaḥī narrated to us; al-Rabīʿ—meaning Ibn Muslim—narrated to us; from Muḥammad ibn Ziyād, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
‘I will certainly drive men away from my Pool just as a strange camel is driven away from a watering place.’
ʿUbayd Allah ibn Muʿādh also narrated it to me; my father narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn Ziyād, who heard Abū Hurayrah say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the same. (5)
