saying:
“Indeed, I have a Pool whose breadth is like the distance from Aylah to the Kaʿbah”—or he said, “(from) Sanaʿa”—“whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Inside it are vessels as numerous as the stars in the sky, and two channels from Paradise replenish it. Whoever rejects it will be denied its water.” (1)
[Another chain from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him)]
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Khāliq al-Bazzār said in his Musnad: “Muḥammad ibn Maʿmar narrated to us; Abū Dāwūd narrated to us; al-Masʿūdī narrated to us, from ʿAdī ibn Thābit, from Anas, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘My Pool stretches from such-and-such to such-and-such. Within it are vessels as numerous as the stars; its fragrance is finer than musk, it is sweeter than honey, cooler than snow, and whiter than milk. Whoever drinks a single draught from it will never thirst again, and whoever does not drink from it will never be quenched, ever.’
He then commented, “We know of no one who has transmitted these exact words except Anas through this chain. ʿAdī ibn Thābit reported nothing else from Anas, and no one conveyed it from him except al-Masʿūdī. The chain is sound, and none of the authors of the canonical collections—nor Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal—have narrated it.” (2)
[Another chain from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him)]
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said: “Al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ narrated to me; Makkī ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us; Mūsā ibn ʿUbaydah narrated to us, from Abū Bakr ibn ʿUbayd Allah ibn Anas, from his grandfather Anas ibn Mālik, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘I was shown my Pool, and on its banks were vessels like the stars in the sky. I placed my hand in it, and there was richly fragrant ambergris.’” (3)
Narration of Buraydah ibn al-Ḥuṣayb al-Aslamī
Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī said: “Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn narrated to us; Yaḥyā ibn Yamān narrated to us; ʿĀʾidh ibn Nusayr (4) al-ʿIjlī narrated to us, from ʿAlqamah ibn Marthad, from Ibn Buraydah, from his father, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘My Pool is like the distance from ʿAmmān to Yemen. Within it are vessels as numerous as the stars in the sky. Whoever drinks a single draught from it will never thirst thereafter.’
Ibn Ṣāʿid and Ibn Abī al-Dunyā likewise transmitted it, from ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Waḍḍāḥ al-Azdī al-Luʾluʾī, from Yaḥyā ibn Yamān, with this wording.
