Another chain from Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him)
Imam Aḥmad said: Muḥammad ibn Fuḍayl narrated to us, from al-Mukhtār ibn Fulful, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ dozed for a moment, then raised his head smiling. He either asked them, or they asked him, ‘Why did you laugh?’ He replied, ‘A surah has just been revealed to me.’ He then recited:
‘In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy: Surely We have granted you al-Kawthar (1); so pray to your Lord and sacrifice (2); indeed, the one who hates you—he is cut off.’ [Surah al-Kawthar]
He continued, ‘Do you know what al-Kawthar is?’ They said, ‘Allah and His Messenger know best.’ He said, ‘It is a river my Lord—Exalted is He—has granted me in Paradise. Upon it is abundant goodness. My nation will come to it on the Day of Resurrection; its vessels are as numerous as the stars. A servant from among them will be driven away, and I will say, “My Lord, he is one of my nation.” It will be said, “You do not know what they introduced after you.”’
This is a three-link chain of transmission. Muslim, Abū Dāwūd, and al-Nasāʾī also recorded it through Ibn Fuḍayl and ʿAlī ibn Musir, both from al-Mukhtār ibn Fulful, from Anas, with the same content. Muslim’s wording is: ‘It is a river my Lord—Exalted is He—has promised me; upon it is abundant goodness. It is a Pool at which my nation will arrive on the Day of Resurrection,’ and the remainder is the same. (1)
The meaning is that two channels (2) will flow from al-Kawthar into the Pool. The Pool is the station of assembly on the Day of Judgment before the Bridge (ṣirāṭ), because people will be seized from it and turned away—those who had apostatized after having believed. Such people will not cross the Bridge, as will be related through numerous paths, and it has been explicitly stated that the Pool will be in the plain of Resurrection, as you will soon see, Allah willing.
Another chain from Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him)
Aḥmad said: Abū ʿĀmir and Azhar ibn al-Qāsim narrated to us; Hishām narrated to us, from Qatādah, from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘The span between the two banks of my Pool is like the distance between Madinah and Ṣanʿāʾ, or like the distance between Madinah and ʿAmmān.’ Muslim likewise related it through Hārūn al-Ḥammāl, from Abū ʿĀmir ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAmr. (3) Muslim also transmitted it from ʿĀṣim ibn al-Naḍr al-Aḥwal, from al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān, from his father, from Qatādah, from Anas with similar wording. (4)
