Al-Bidayah wa an-NihayahIbn Kathir

above them on that Day by eight; on that Day you will be brought forward, and nothing of you will remain concealed. (Q 69:17–18)

And He, exalted, also says:

“Listen for the Day when the Caller will call from a place nearby; the Day they will hear the inevitable Cry—that is the Day of Emergence. It is We who give life and cause death, and to Us is the final return. On the Day the earth will split open for them and they will rush forth; that gathering is easy for Us.” (Q 50:41–44)

He, the Most High, also says:

“Indeed, with Us are shackles and a blazing Fire, and food that chokes, and a painful punishment, on the Day the earth and the mountains quake and the mountains become a drifting heap of sand… up to His words: ‘the heaven will be rent asunder thereby; His promise is ever fulfilled.’” (Q 73:12–18)

And He says:

“On the Day He gathers them, it will be as though they had stayed no more than an hour of the day, recognizing one another. Those who denied the meeting with Allah will surely be the losers, for they were not guided.” (Q 10:45)

And He says:

“On the Day We set the mountains in motion and you see the earth laid bare, We shall gather them together, leaving not one of them behind. They will be marshalled before your Lord in rows: ‘You have certainly come to Us just as We created you the first time, yet you claimed We would not appoint a meeting for you.’ The record will be set down, and you will see the guilty fearful of what is in it; they will say, ‘Alas for us! What sort of book is this? It leaves nothing small or great without enumerating it!’ They will find everything they did present before them, and your Lord wrongs no one.” (Q 18:47–49)

And He says:

“They did not give Allah the reverence due to Him, while the whole earth will be in His grasp on the Day of Resurrection and the heavens will be folded in His right hand. Glory be to Him; far above is He from what they associate with Him. The Trumpet will be blown and all who are in the heavens and on the earth will faint except whom Allah wills; then it will be blown again and—behold—they will be standing, looking on. The earth will shine with the light of its Lord, the Book will be set down, the prophets and the witnesses will be brought, and judgment will be passed between them in truth, and they will not be wronged. Every soul will be paid in full for what it earned, and He is best aware of what they do.” (Q 39:67–70)

And He says:

“When the Trumpet is blown, there will be no kinship between them that Day, nor will they ask about one another. Those whose scales are heavy—it is they who will prosper; but those whose scales are light—it is they who have ruined themselves; they will remain in Hell forever.” (Q 23:101–103)

And He says:

“On the Day when the sky will be like molten brass, and the mountains like tufts of coloured wool, and no close friend will ask about his friend—even though they will see one another—the sinner will wish he could ransom himself from the torment of that Day with his children, his wife and his brother, his clan that sheltered him, and everyone on earth altogether, then be delivered. No indeed! It is a scorching Fire, stripping away the scalp, calling him who turned his back and walked away, and amassed wealth and hoarded it.” (Q 70:8–18)

And He says:

“But when the Deafening Blast comes, that Day a man will flee from his brother, and his mother and his father, and his wife and his sons. For every one of them that Day there will be a matter to occupy him. Faces that Day will be bright, laughing and rejoicing; and faces that Day will be covered with dust, veiled in darkness—those will be the unbelievers, the wicked.” (Q 80:33–42)

And He says:

“When the Greatest Catastrophe arrives, on the Day man will remember what he strove for, and Hell will be displayed for whoever can see. As for him who transgressed and preferred the life of this world, Hell will be his abode. But the one who feared standing before his Lord and restrained his soul from its desires, Paradise will be his refuge. They ask you about the Hour, ‘When will it anchor?’ What concern is it of yours to mention it? Its final knowledge rests with your Lord. You are only a warner to those who fear it. On the Day they behold it, it will seem as though they had stayed only an evening or its forenoon.” (Q 79:34–46)

And He says:

“No indeed! When the earth is pounded to dust, pounded and crushed, and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, and Hell is brought near on that Day—on that Day man will remember, but how will remembrance avail him? He will say, ‘Alas! Would that I had sent something ahead for my life!’ So on that Day none can punish as He punishes, and none can bind as He binds.” (Q 89:21–26)
