—exalted be He—when He comes to settle the Judgment; at that moment the people will swoon, just as Moses fell unconscious on the day of the Mount. Allah knows best.
Abū Bakr ibn Abī al-Dunyā also said:
Isḥāq ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us; Jarīr narrated to us, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, from al-Ḥasan, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“It is as though I see myself shaking the dust from my head; I look around and see no one except Moses, holding fast to the Throne. I do not know whether he is among those whom Allah exempted so that the Blast would not touch them, or whether he has been raised before me.”
This is also a mursal report and it is the weaker of the two.
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Bayhaqī said:
Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ and Abū Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿAmr narrated to us; they said: Abū al-ʿAbbās Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq al-Ṣaghānī narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn Muḥammad al-Nāqid narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn ʿUthmān narrated to us; Mūsā ibn Aʿyan narrated to us, from Maʿmar ibn Rāshid, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Yaʿqūb, from Bishr ibn Shaghāf, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Salām, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“I am the leader of the children of Adam on the Day of Resurrection—and I say this without boasting. I am the first for whom the earth will split open; I am the first intercessor and the first whose intercession will be accepted. The Banner of Praise will be in my hand, and beneath me will stand Adam and all who come after him.”
Bukhārī and Muslim did not record this report, yet its chain is sound.
Abū Bakr ibn Abī al-Dunyā also said:
Abū Salamah al-Makhzūmī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Nāfiʿ narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUmar, from Abū Bakr ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh.
Others—besides Abū Salamah—transmit it from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“I am the first for whom the earth will be split open; then Abū Bakr, then ʿUmar. I shall then proceed to the people of al-Baqīʿ, who will be gathered with me. After that I shall wait for the people of Mecca, and they too will be gathered with me, so that I shall be resurrected between the Two Sanctuaries.” ⦗1⦘
He also said:
al-Ḥakam ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Saʿīd ibn Maslamah narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Umayyah, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque with Abū Bakr on his right and ʿUmar on his left, leaning upon them both, and said,
“Thus shall we be raised on the Day of Resurrection.” ⦗2⦘
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā further said:
Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd narrated to us; al-Layth ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from Khālid ibn Yazīd, from Saʿīd ibn Abī Hilāl, from Nubayh ibn Wahb, that Kaʿb al-Aḥbār said:
“No dawn breaks but that seventy thousand angels descend and surround the grave, beating their wings and invoking blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ. When evening falls they ascend, and another seventy thousand descend and do the same. When the earth is cleft and he ﷺ comes forth, he will be accompanied by seventy thousand angels who honor him.”
Hārūn ibn ʿUmar al-Qurashī also informed us: al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated to us; Marwān ibn Sālim narrated to us, from
