and the ṣiddīqūn (the eminently truthful) sit behind them on those dunes of musk.
Then Allah, Exalted be He, says: “I am your Lord; I have fulfilled My promise to you, so ask of Me and I shall grant it.”
They reply, “Our Lord, we ask You for Your good pleasure.”
He says, “I am pleased with you, and you shall have from Me whatever you desire—and with Me there is even more.”
For that reason they love Friday, because of the bounty their Lord bestows upon them on it. It is the day on which your Lord established Himself over the Throne, the day on which Allah created Adam, and the day on which the Hour will be set up.
Al-Shāfiʿī also transmitted this report from Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad: “Abū ʿImrān Ibrāhīm ibn al-Jaʿd related to me from Anas something similar, and he added certain details.” I say: We shall mention this ḥadīth, Allah willing, in the chapter on the description of Paradise, together with its corroborating narrations and chains of transmission. Allah is the One whose help is sought. (1)
Imām Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal said: Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī al-Juʿfī related to us, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir, from Abū al-Ashʿath al-Ṣanʿānī, from Aws ibn Aws al-Thaqafī, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Among the best of your days is Friday: on it Adam was created, on it he died, on it the Trumpet will be blown, and on it the Thunder-stroke will strike. So increase your blessings upon me on that day, for your blessings are presented to me.”
They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, how will our blessings be presented to you when you have decomposed—meaning when your body has decayed?” He replied, “Allah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the Prophets.”
Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasāʾī, and Ibn Mājah also recorded it through Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī al-Juʿfī. In one version reported by Ibn Mājah the narrator is Shaddād ibn Aws instead of Aws ibn Aws; our shaykh said this is an error. (2)
Imām Aḥmad likewise said: Abū ʿĀmir ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAmr related to us; Zuhayr—meaning ibn Muḥammad—related to us, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd al-Anṣārī, from Abū Lubāba (3) ibn ʿAbd al-Mundhir, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The master of the days is Friday; in Allah’s sight it is the greatest of them, greater with Allah—Exalted is He—than the Day of Breaking the Fast and the Day of Sacrifice. Within it there are five distinguishing features: on it Allah created Adam; on it Allah sent Adam down to earth; on it Allah caused Adam to die; on it there is an hour in which no servant asks Allah for anything but that He grants it, provided he does not ask for something unlawful; and on it the Hour will be established. There is no close angel, no heaven, no earth, no wind, no mountain, and no sea except that they are in awe of Friday.”
Ibn Mājah also recorded it, from Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah, from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Bukayr, from Zuhayr, with this wording. (4)
