He answered, ‘Fear of You—and You know best.’
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Nothing overtook him thereafter except that Allah forgave him.’ (1) (2)
Ṣāliḥ al-Murrī related:
‘I went into the cemetery at midday and gazed at the graves; they looked to me like a mute people. I said, “Glory be to the One who will give you life and spread you forth after this long decay!” Then a voice called out to me from one of those pits: “O Ṣāliḥ: ‘And among His signs is that the heaven and the earth stand firm by His command; then, when He calls you with a single call from the earth, you will come forth at once’ (25) (Sūrat al-Rūm, 30:25).” By Allah, I collapsed on the spot, unconscious.’
