and the joints joining one to another. When they hear the second Cry the people will leap to their feet, shaking the dust from their heads. The believers will say, “Glory be to You! We never worshipped You as You truly deserve.” (1)
Narrations Concerning the Resurrection
Sufyān al-Thawrī narrated—from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Abū al-Zaʿrāʾ, from ʿAbd Allāh—who said:
“Allah will send a wind containing ṣirr (a piercing chill) and zamharīr (bitter frost); no believer will remain on earth without being seized by that wind, after which the Hour will be established…” He then related the report as already cited. (2)
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said: Abū Khaythamah informed us, Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Yaʿlā ibn ʿAṭāʾ, from Wakiʿ ibn ʿUdus, from his uncle Abū Razīn, who said:
“I asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, how does Allah give life to the dead, and what sign of that is there in His creation?’
He replied, ‘O Abū Razīn, have you not passed by your people’s valley when it was barren, and then passed by it again when it was quivering with greenery?’
I said, ‘Indeed I have.’
He said, ‘In just that way Allah revives the dead, and that is His sign in His creation.’” (3)
This was also narrated by Aḥmad, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī and Ghundar, both from Shuʿbah, through Yaʿlā ibn ʿAṭāʾ, with similar wording. (4)
Aḥmad transmitted it through another chain, saying: ʿAlī ibn Isḥāq told us, ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak told us, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir informed us, from Sulaymān ibn Mūsā, from Abū Razīn al-ʿUqaylī, who said:
“I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, how will Allah bring the dead to life?’
He said, ‘Have you not passed by a patch of your land that was parched, and then passed by it again when it was lush?’
I said, ‘Yes.’
He said, ‘Such is the resurrection.’
I then asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, what is faith?’
He said, ‘That you testify there is no god but Allah alone with no partner, and that Muḥammad is His servant and Messenger; that Allah and His Messenger are dearer to you than anything else; that being burnt in the Fire is preferable to you than associating anything with Allah; and that you love a person with whom you have no kinship purely for Allah—exalted is He. When you are like that, the love of faith will have entered your heart just as the love of water enters the heart of one parched on a sweltering day.’
I said, ‘Messenger of Allah, how can I know that I am a believer?’
He said, ‘No servant of this community performs a good deed, knowing it to be good and that Allah—exalted is He—will reward him for it with something better, nor commits a misdeed, knowing it to be evil and then seeks Allah’s forgiveness for it, knowing that none forgives sins but Him, except that he is a believer.’ Aḥmad alone narrated this.
