‘Abd al-Raḥmān ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr related to us, from his father, from Faḍālah ibn ‘Ubayd, from the Prophet ﷺ.
He also narrated to us Hishām ibn Sa‘d, from Sa‘īd ibn Abī Hilāl, from Ibn Ḥujayrah, from ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Āmir, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“The Hour will break upon you as a black cloud, the size of a shield, rising from the West. It will keep rising and rising until it fills the sky. Then a herald will proclaim, ‘O people, the command of Allah has arrived.’ By Him in whose hand is my soul: two men will be spreading out a garment but will not fold it again; a man will be baling water from his trough but will not drink from it; and a man will be milking his she-camel but will not taste a single drop.” (1)
Muḥārib ibn Dithār said, “On the Day of Resurrection the birds will beat with their tails and disgorge what is in their crops out of the terror of what they behold; they will have no thought of seeking food.” Ibn Abī al-Dunyā recorded it in al-Ahwāl (2).
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā also said: al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā al-‘Abdī narrated to us; ‘Abd al-Razzāq narrated to us; ‘Abd Allāh ibn Baḥīr narrated to us; I heard ‘Abd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd al-Ṣan‘ānī say, “I heard ‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Umar say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Whoever would like to look upon the Day of Resurrection with his very eyes, let him recite: When the sun is rolled up, When the sky is cleft asunder, and When the sky is rent asunder.’” Aḥmad and al-Tirmidhī also transmitted it from the report of ‘Abd Allāh ibn Baḥīr (3).
[The Blast of Resurrection]
Allah the Exalted says:
“And the Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth will swoon, except those whom Allah wills; then it will be blown a second time, and behold, they will be standing, looking on. (68) The earth will shine with the light of its Lord; the Record will be set down; the prophets and the witnesses will be brought; and judgment will be passed between them in justice, and they will not be wronged. (69) Every soul will be paid in full for what it did, and He is best aware of what they do. (70)” [Al-Zumar: 68-70].
He, Most High, also says:
“On the Day when the Trumpet is blown and you come forth in crowds, (18) when the sky is opened and becomes gates, (19) and when the mountains are set in motion and become a mirage— (20)” [Al-Naba’: 18-20].
And He says:
“On the Day He calls you, you will respond with His praise, thinking you tarried only a little while. (52)” [Al-Isrā’: 52].
And He says:
“It will be but one single blast, (13) and behold, they are on the open plain. (14)” [Al-Nāzi‘āt: 13-14].
And He says:
“The Trumpet will be blown, and behold, they will rush forth from the graves to their Lord. (51) They will say, ‘Woe to us! Who has raised us from our resting-place?’ ‘This is what the All-Merciful promised, and the messengers spoke the truth.’ (52) It was but one single cry, and behold, they are all brought before Us. (53) Today no soul shall be wronged in the least, and you will be repaid only for what you used to do. (54)” [Yā-Sīn: 51-54].
It is mentioned in the ḥadith of the Trumpet that after the Blast of Swooning and the annihilation of all creatures, there remains the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting One who never dies, who
