He—the Exalted—also says:
“On the Day the Trumpet is blown, you will come forward in crowds. ⦗78:18⦘”
And He says:
“On the Day the Trumpet is blown, We shall gather the criminals on that Day, their eyes glazed and blue. ⦗20:102⦘” and the verses that follow.
Imam Aḥmad reported: Ismāʿīl related to us; Sulaymān al-Taymī narrated from Aslam al-ʿIjlī, from Bishr ibn Shaghāf, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr who said:
A Bedouin asked, “Messenger of Allah, what is the ṣūr?” He replied, “A horn that will be blown into.”
Aḥmad also transmitted it through Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān, from Sulaymān ibn Ṭarḫān al-Taymī with the same chain. Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, and al-Nasāʾī likewise recorded it through several routes from Sulaymān al-Taymī, from Aslam al-ʿIjlī. Al-Tirmidhī said: “It is sound (ḥasan); we do not know it except through the narration of Aslam al-ʿIjlī.” (1)(2)
Imam Aḥmad further reported: Asbāṭ related to us; Muṭarrif narrated from ʿAṭiyyah, from Ibn ʿAbbās regarding the Almighty’s words, “When the trumpet is sounded ⦗74:8⦘.” He said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “How could I be at ease when the bearer of the Horn has already lifted it to his mouth, has bent his forehead, and is waiting to be commanded so that he may blow?”
The Companions asked, “Messenger of Allah, what should we say?” He replied, “Say: ḥasbunā Allāh wa niʿma al-wakīl, ʿalā Allāh tawakkalnā (Allah is sufficient for us and what an excellent Trustee; in Allah we place our trust).” This wording is unique to Aḥmad, although Abū Kudaynah Yaḥyā ibn al-Muhallab also narrated it from Muṭarrif with the same chain. (3)
Imam Aḥmad likewise reported: Sufyān related to us; Muṭarrif narrated from ʿAṭiyyah, from Abū Saʿīd, from the Prophet ﷺ who said,
“How could I feel secure when the bearer of the Horn has already placed it to his mouth, has bent his forehead, and is straining his ear, waiting to be commanded?”
The Muslims asked, “Messenger of Allah, what should we say?” He replied, “Say: ḥasbunā Allāh wa niʿma al-wakīl, ʿalā Allāh tawakkalnā.”
Al-Tirmidhī recorded it from Ibn Abī ʿUmar, from Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, and declared it “ḥasan.” He also transmitted it through Khālid ibn Ṭahmān, from ʿAṭiyyah, from Abū Saʿīd with the same wording, and likewise graded it “ḥasan.”
Our teacher Abū ’l-Ḥajjāj al-Mizzī said in his work Al-Aṭrāf: “It was also narrated by Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm Abū Yaḥyā al-Taymī, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Saʿīd.” This, may Allah have mercy on him, is what he stated. Abū Bakr ibn Abī ’l-Dunyā likewise reported it in his book Al-Ahwāl, saying: ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah told us; Jarīr narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “How could I enjoy myself when the bearer of the Trumpet has already placed the Trumpet to his mouth, has bent his forehead, and is waiting to be commanded to blow—and he will blow?”
