(Chapter: The Prohibition against Inciting al-Ḥabasha —the Abyssinians)
Al-Qāsim ibn Aḥmad narrated to us; Abū ʿĀmir narrated to us; Zuhayr ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, from Mūsā ibn Jubayr, from Abū Umāmah ibn Sahl ibn Ḥunayf, from ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“Leave al-Ḥabasha so long as they leave you, for the treasure of the Kaʿbah will be extracted only by Dhu al-Suwayqatayn from al-Ḥabasha.” (1)
Imam Aḥmad said: Yahyā related to us, from ʿUbayd Allah ibn al-Akhnaṣ, who said: Ibn Abī Mulaykah—ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUbayd Allah ibn Abī Mulaykah—told me that Ibn ʿAbbās informed him that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“It is as though I am looking at him: a black, bow-legged man dismantling it stone by stone—meaning the Kaʿbah.” Al-Bukhārī alone recorded this report; he transmitted it through ʿAmr ibn ʿAlī al-Fallas, from Yahyā—that is, Ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān—with this chain. (2)
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Bazzār said: Muḥammad ibn al-Muthannā narrated to us; Abū ʿĀmir narrated to us; ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated to us, from Thawr, from Abū al-Ghayth, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“Dhu al-Suwayqatayn from al-Ḥabasha will demolish the House of Allah.” Muslim likewise transmitted it through Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd, from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad al-Darāwardī, with this same chain. (3)
By this same chain it is also reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The Hour will not be established until a man from Qaḥṭān appears, driving the people with his staff.” Al-Bukhārī related it through ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbd Allah, from Sulaymān ibn Bilāl, and Muslim through Qutaybah, from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Darāwardī—both from Thawr ibn Zayd al-Dīlī, from Abū al-Ghayth Sālim, the freedman of Ibn Muṭīʿ, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ—word for word, exactly the same. (4)
It may be that this man is Dhu al-Suwayqatayn, yet it could also be someone else, for that person would be from Qaḥṭān whereas Dhu al-Suwayqatayn is from al-Ḥabasha. Allah knows best.
Imam Aḥmad said: Abū Bakr al-Ḥanafī narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, from ʿUmar ibn al-Ḥakam al-Anṣārī, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Night and day will not cease until a man from the mawālī rules, and he will be called Jahjah.” Muslim transmitted it through Muḥammad ibn Bashshār, from Abū Bakr al-Ḥanafī, with this chain. (5)
Thus it is possible that Jahjah is the name of Dhu al-Suwayqatayn the Abyssinian; Allah knows best.
