“Gog and Magog are descendants of Adam. Were they to be set loose they would ruin people’s livelihoods, and no man among them dies without leaving a thousand or more of his progeny. Behind them stand three nations: Tāwīl, Tārīs, and Mansak.”
This is an isolated (gharīb) report; it may in fact be the statement of ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr taken from his two scrolls (1). Allah knows best.

Muḥammad ibn al-Muthannā related to us; Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar related to us; Shuʿba related to us, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Abī Yazīd, who said:
Ibn ʿAbbās saw some boys jumping on top of one another as they played, whereupon he said, “It is in this manner that Gog and Magog will pour forth.”
On the destruction of the Kaʿba—may Allah exalt its honor—at the hands of Dhu al-Suwayqatayn (2), the flat-footed Abyssinian; may Allah disgrace him
We have transmitted from Kaʿb al-Aḥbār, in his commentary on Allah’s words, “until, when Gog and Magog are let loose” (Qurʾān 21:96), that the first appearance of Dhu al-Suwayqatayn will be in the days of Jesus son of Mary (may Allah have mercy on them). This will occur after Gog and Magog have been destroyed. Allah will then dispatch Jesus son of Mary at the head of between seven hundred and eight hundred men. While they are on their way toward him, Allah will send a pleasant, Yemeni breeze that will seize the soul of every believer. Those who remain will be but scum (3) among humanity, coupling as openly as livestock (4).
Kaʿb added: “At that point the Hour will be near.”
I say: In the sound ḥadīth cited earlier it is stated that Jesus (may Allah have mercy on them) will perform the pilgrimage after his descent to the earth (5).
