the rain, which will drag their corpses away until it hurls them into the sea. My Lord—Mighty and Majestic—is He—has informed me that when this occurs, the Hour will be like a woman at full term whose family do not know when labor will suddenly seize her, whether by night or by day.” Ibn Mājah likewise recorded it—from Muḥammad ibn Bashshār, from Yazīd ibn Hārūn, from al-ʿAwwām ibn Ḥawshab—with similar wording ⦗1⦘.
The Description of the Messiah Jesus son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ
Both Ṣaḥīḥs relate—from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd, from Abū Hurayrah—who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared: “On the night I was taken on the Night Journey I met Moses.” He then described him, saying: “He was”—I think he said—“well-built (that is, tall), with loose hair, as though he were one of the men of Shanūʾah.” He went on: “And I met Jesus,” and the Prophet ﷺ described him, saying: “Of medium height, reddish of complexion, as though he had just come out of a dimās,” meaning a bath-house ⦗2⦘.
Al-Bukhārī also reports—through Mujāhid, from Ibn ʿUmar—who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “I saw Jesus, Moses, and Abraham. As for Jesus, he was reddish, curly-haired, broad-chested; as for Moses, he was brown-skinned, large-bodied, straight-haired, as though he were one of the men of the Zutt ⦗3⦘ ⦗4⦘.
Both compilers further transmit—via Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar—who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once mentioned the false messiah while we were in his presence and said: “Allah is not one-eyed, but the false messiah is blind in the right eye; his eye is like a floating grape. Tonight I was shown in a dream as though I were at the Kaʿbah, and suddenly a man of brown complexion, among the handsomest of men of that hue, appeared. His locks fell to his shoulders, straight and dripping with water; his hands were resting on the shoulders of two men while he circumambulated the House. I asked, ‘Who is this?’ They said, ‘This is the Messiah, son of Mary.’ Then I saw another man behind him, with coarse, tightly curled hair, blind in the right eye—the one who most resembles Ibn Qaṭan of all I have seen—his hands likewise on the shoulders of a man, going round the House. I asked, ‘Who is this?’ They said, ‘The Messiah, the Dajjāl.’ ” ʿUbayd Allah corroborated it from Nāfiʿ ⦗5⦘.
Al-Bukhārī also narrated—from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Makkī, from Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd, from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim, from his father—who said: “By Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not say that Jesus is reddish; rather he said: ‘While I was asleep, circumambulating the Kaʿbah, I suddenly saw a man of brown complexion, with straight hair, supported by two men; water was dripping from his head—or being poured from it. I asked, ‘Who
