or on account of the specious doubts he brings.” This is exactly how it was worded; Abū Dāwūd alone transmitted it. (1)
Aḥmad said: “Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated to us; Hishām ibn Ḥassān narrated to us; Ḥumayd ibn Hilāl narrated to us; from Abū al-Dahmāʾ; from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn; from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: ‘Whoever hears of the Dajjal should keep away from him, for a man will come to him thinking that he is a believer, and he will continue under his influence—because of the doubts he carries—until he follows him.’ The same wording was reported by Yazīd ibn Hārūn from Hishām ibn Ḥassān. This chain is sound; Abū al-Dahmāʾ, whose name is Qirfah ibn Buḥays al-ʿAdawī, is trustworthy. (2)
Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated from ʿAlī ibn Zayd, from al-Ḥasan, from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “He has eaten food and walked about in the marketplaces,” meaning the Dajjal. (3)
The ḥadīth of ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit (may Allah be pleased with him)
Abū Dāwūd said: “Ḥaywah ibn Shurayḥ narrated to us; Baqiyyah narrated to us; Baḥīr narrated to us; from Khālid; from ʿAmr ibn al-Aswad; from Junādah ibn Abī Umayyah; from ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit, who related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘I have spoken to you about the Dajjal so often that I fear you may not comprehend it all. The Messiah, the Dajjal, is a short man, bow-legged (4), with curly hair; he is one-eyed, his eye obliterated—neither protruding nor deeply sunken (5). If matters become confused for you, know that your Lord is not one-eyed.’ ” Aḥmad also narrated it from Ḥaywah ibn Shurayḥ and Yazīd ibn ʿAbd Rabbih, and al-Nasāʾī from Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm; all of them from Baqiyyah ibn al-Walīd with this chain. (6)
A ḥadīth from Asmāʾ bint ʿUmays
Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it through the route of Anas ibn ʿIyāḍ, from ʿUbaydullāh (7) ibn ʿUmar, who said: One of our companions related to me from Asmāʾ bint ʿUmays that she complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of poverty. He said, “How will it be for you when you are tested with a servant to whom the rivers and produce of the earth have been subjugated? Whoever follows him he will feed and render unbelieving, and whoever disobeys him he will deprive and withhold.” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, the maid sometimes keeps me at the oven while she is baking, and I almost become distracted by her during my prayer; so what will become of us when that time comes?” He replied, “Allah will surely protect the believers with the same protection by which He safeguards the angels.” (8)
