until Jesus son of Mary overtakes him and kills him.”
Our teacher, the ḥāfiẓ al-Dhahabī, said, “This ḥadīth has a strong chain of transmission. (1)
The ḥadīth of Nahīk ibn Ṣuraym (may Allah be pleased with him)
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Bazzār said:
“Abū Mūsā al-Zamin narrated to us; Ibrāhīm ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Abān narrated to us, from Yazīd ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir, from Busr ibn ʿUbayd Allah, from Abū Idrīs, from Nahīk ibn Ṣuraym al-Sakūnī, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘You will assuredly fight the polytheists until a detachment of yours confronts the Dajjāl at the River Jordan: you on its eastern bank and he on its western.’”
He added, “I do not know where the Jordan will lie on that day.” The same report was transmitted by Saʿīd ibn Sālim and ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Ṣāliḥ. (2)
[The ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him)]
Aḥmad said:
“Quṭaybah narrated to us; Yaʿqūb narrated to us; from Suhayl, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘The Hour will not be established until the Muslims fight the Jews and the Muslims kill them, to the point that a Jew will hide behind a rock or a tree and the rock or the tree will say, “O Muslim, O servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him,” except for the gharqad, for it is one of the trees of the Jews.’ (3)”
Muslim likewise narrated from Quṭaybah with this chain: “The Hour will not come until you fight the Turks…” (4) The various chains and wordings of that ḥadīth have already been presented; and it appears—Allah knows best—that these Turks are the supporters of the Dajjāl, as mentioned in the ḥadīth of Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq reported by Aḥmad, al-Tirmidhī, and Ibn Mājah.
Another route from Abū Hurayrah
Aḥmad said:
“Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; Jarīr narrated to us; from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, from Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Taymī, from Abū Salamah, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘The Dajjāl will certainly descend in Khūz and Kirmān with seventy thousand men whose faces resemble hammered shields.’ (5)”
Its chain is sound, strong, and good. (6)
