Hadith of ʿAbd Allah ibn Busr (may Allah be pleased with him)
Ḥanbal ibn Isḥāq said: Duḥaym narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Yaḥyā al-Maʿāfirī—al-Burlusī—one of the reliable transmitters, narrated to us from Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ. Abū al-Wāziʿ narrated to me that he heard ʿAbd Allah ibn Busr say: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declare: “The Dajjāl will certainly be encountered by whoever has seen me,” or he said, “He will most surely appear shortly after my death.”
Our teacher al-Dhahabī remarked, “Abū al-Wāziʿ is unknown, and the ḥadīth is munkar (unreliable). A corroborating report has already preceded in the narration of Abū ʿUbaydah.” (1)
Hadith of Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ (may Allah be pleased with him)
Al-Ṭabarānī said: al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Faḍl al-Asfāṭī narrated to us; Zayd ibn al-Ḥarīsh narrated to us; Abū Hammām Muḥammad ibn al-Zibraqān narrated to us; Mūsā ibn ʿUbaydah narrated to us; Zayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān (2) narrated to me, from Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ, who related:
I was walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ coming from the direction of al-ʿAqīq, and when we reached al-Thaniyyah he said:
“I can see the very spots where the enemy of Allah, the Messiah (the Antichrist), will tread. He will advance until he alights at such-and-such a place, and then the rabble will come out to meet him. There is not a single pass among the passes of Medina without an angel—or two—stationed on it, guarding it. He will carry two likenesses with him: one of Paradise and one of the Fire, green in hue. With him will be devils who imitate the dead. He will say to the living, ‘Do you recognize me? I am your brother, I am your father, I am your kinsman. Did I not die? This is our Lord, so follow him.’
Allah will decree concerning him whatever He wills, and He will raise up a man from among the Muslims who will silence him, rebuke him, and proclaim, ‘This is the liar. O people, do not let him deceive you; he is a liar who speaks falsehood, and your Lord is not one-eyed.’
The Dajjāl will then say, ‘Will you follow me?’ The man will refuse, whereupon the Dajjāl will split him into two halves and separate them. Then he will say, ‘Shall I restore him for you?’ Allah will then revive the man, who will return more vehement in denying him and in reviling him than before. He will say, ‘O people, what you have witnessed is a trial with which you have been tested. If he is truthful, let him raise me a second time. Lo, he is a liar.’ The Dajjāl will then command that he be cast into this fire of his—which is in reality an image of Paradise—after which he will move on toward Syria.”
Mūsā ibn ʿUbaydah al-Zabadhī is weak, and this version of the narration is unusual; Allah knows best. (3)
Hadith of Miḥjan ibn al-Adraʿ (may Allah be pleased with him)
Aḥmad said: Yūnus narrated to us; Ḥammād—meaning Ibn Salamah—narrated to us from Saʿīd al-Jurayrī, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Shaqīq, from Miḥjan ibn al-Adraʿ, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed the people and said:
“The Day of Deliverance! And what will make you know what the Day of Deliverance is?!”—three times.
It was asked, “What is the Day of Deliverance?” He replied, “The Dajjāl will come and will climb Mount Uḥud and look at…”
