[Another route from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him)]
Aḥmad said: ʿAmr ibn al-Haytham narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated to us; from Qatādah; from Anas, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘No prophet was ever sent without warning his community about the one-eyed liar. Indeed, he is one-eyed, and your Lord is not one-eyed. Written between his eyes is “kāfir.”’
Al-Bukhārī and Muslim also reported it through Shuʿbah (1).
[Hadith of Safīnah (may Allah be pleased with him)]
Aḥmad said: Abū al-Naḍr narrated to us; Ḥashraj narrated to us; Saʿīd ibn Jumhān narrated to me; from Safīnah, the freedman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us and said:
‘Verily, there was no prophet before me who did not warn his nation about the Dajjāl. He is blind in his left eye, and in his right eye is a thick piece of flesh. Written between his eyes is “kāfir.” Two valleys will accompany him: one a garden, the other fire; his fire is a garden and his garden is fire. With him are two angels who resemble two prophets from among the prophets; were I to wish, I would name them and their fathers. One is on his right and the other on his left, and that is a trial.
The Dajjāl will say, “Am I not your Lord? Do I not give life and cause death?” One of the two angels will reply, “You lie,” yet no one will hear him except his companion. That companion will then say, “You have spoken the truth,” and the people will hear him and assume he is confirming the Dajjāl—this, too, is a trial. He will then travel until he reaches Medina, but he will not be allowed to enter it. He will say, “This is the village of that man,” and will proceed until he reaches Syria, where Allah—Mighty and Majestic is He—will destroy him at the pass of Afīq (2).’
Aḥmad transmitted this alone. Its chain is sound, though its text contains some odd and objectionable matters; Allah knows best (3).
[Hadith of Muʿādh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him)]
Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān al-Fasawī said in his Musnad: Yaḥyā ibn Bukayr narrated to us; Khunays ibn ʿĀmir ibn Yaḥyā al-Muʿāfirī narrated to me; from Abū Qabīl; from Junādah ibn Abī Umayyah:
A group visited Muʿādh ibn Jabal while he was ill and said, “Tell us a ḥadīth you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that you have not forgotten.” He said, “Seat me up,” so some of them took him by the hand while others sat behind him, and he said:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘There is no prophet but that he warned his community about the Dajjāl. I warn you about him: he is one-eyed, whereas my Lord—Mighty and Majestic is He—is not one-eyed. Written between his eyes is “kāfir,” readable by both the literate and the illiterate. He will have with him a garden and a fire; his fire is a garden and his garden is fire.’”
Our shaykh, the ḥāfiẓ al-Dhahabī, said: Khunays is the sole transmitter of this report. I know of no criticism of him, and its chain is acceptable.
